Goldstar (www.goldstar.com) announces today the nominees for the 8th Annual Goldstar National Nutcracker Award, the only award honoring live performances of the holiday classic.

Cornish Dance Theater, the performing ensemble of the Dance Department at Cornish College of the Arts, will feature choreography by Iyun Ashani Harrison, Jose Limon, Vivian Little, Michele Miller, and Amy O'Neal at its Fall 2014 Concert, which takes place at the Cornish Playhouse this weekend, Nov. 21 and 22. Many of the pieces, including one world premiere from Harrison, focus on issues relevant to the dancers and today's college students.

Leo Lionni's Frederick, Chicago Children's Theatre's current hit family musical, has been extended an additional week with 11 more performances added to the schedule to meet audience demand.

The Ruth Page Civic Ballet is proud to present its annual production of The Nutcracker this holiday season playing December 6 - 7 at Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. Co-directed by Victor Alexander and Dolores Lipinski Long, the ballet plays on Saturday, December 6 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 7 at 1 and 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors and children under the age of 12 and $5 for NEIU students, faculty and staff, per I.D. card. The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, announces the winners of the fifth annual Choreographers of Color Award:Jennifer Archibald, Abdul Latif and Stephanie Martinez. This announcement follows a national call for artists to submit applications, which began in July.

Joffrey Ballet Artistic Director Ashley Wheater and Executive Director Greg Cameron announced today that Erica Lynette Edwards, a dancer with the Joffrey since 2000 who took on such roles as The Chosen One in Nijinsky's The Rite of Spring, fourth song soloist in Antony Tudor's Dark Elegies and the Fairy Godmother in Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, will retire following the engagement of Robert Joffrey's The Nutcracker (set to run at the Auditorium Theatre, December 5-28) to become the company's new Director of Community Engagement.
