BWW Review: ACOSTA DANZA UP CLOSE, Royal Opera House

This show, by the company of ex-Principal dancer at The Royal Ballet, Carlos Acosta, gives the audience a mixed bill, as up close as the title suggests, with as much Cuba as you would find in a hand-rolled cigar.

Sadler's Wells Announces New Shows For 2020 and Barclays Dance Pass

Tickets are on public sale from Monday 10 February 2020 for new shows announced at Sadler's Wells across 2020, featuring five world premieres, 10 UK premieres, and six Sadler's Wells Productions and co-productions, as well as a host of new creative partnerships involving artists from all over the world.

THE LITTLE PRINCE Will Embark on a Spring Tour

Loved by children and adults around the world for generations, the classic tale by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has been given a fresh and witty new adaptation using Luca Silvestrini's distinctive blend of dance, humour, words and music. Following its premiere at DanceEast for Christmas 2018 and 2019 tour, including a Christmas run at The Place in London, the show returns with the theatre tour and also a new adapted version especially made for for rural areas and smaller venues. Audiences will be invited to join the Little Prince as he journeys through a weird and wonderful universe, meeting fascinating characters along the way whilst learning about the value of friendship and love.

South Korean Choreographers Collaborate with Khambatta Dance Festival at Seattle International Dance Festival Winter Mini-Fest

Seattle-based Khambatta Dance Company collaborates with South Korean dance companies Braveman and Unplugged Bodies at the 3rd Annual Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF) Winter Mini-Fest. Choreographers Jaewoo Jung, Kyoung-Shin Kim and Cyrus Khambatta will unite elements of their collective dance backgrounds to present four emotionally charged performances over two weekends. The four-performance festival ends with a new piece produced in just six days. This highly anticipated premiere is a rewarding experience for all involved and one of the signature components of SIDF.

Third Annual Seattle International Dance Festival. Winter Mini-Fest Spotlights South Korea

The 3rd Annual Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF) Winter Mini-Fest features three celebrated choreographers/dancers: Seattle-based Khambatta Dance Company's (KDC) artistic director Cyrus Khambatta, as well as Jaewoo Jung and Kyoung-Shin Kim from the South Korea-based dance troupe Unplugged Bodies. Together they will unite elements of their collective dance backgrounds and present four emotionally charged performances over two weekends.

International Dance Competition Popcity UK Vol. 5 Comes To Shoreditch Town Hall

Now in its 5th year, renowned international dance competition Popcity UK returns to London in January 2020 bringing together world-renowned dance artists and the UK Hip Hop and Popping community with UK-based dancers, international judges, guest performers and live DJs in one of the first Hip Hop events of the year in the capital. Winners will have the chance to represent the UK at the Popcity Finals in East Asia in December 2020. Activities leading up to the competition, which takes place on Saturday 25 January, include an inspirational training intensive led by London's pioneers of Hip Hop and taster sessions for locals in the London Bridge area throughout winter. The main battle event will be streamed using Instagram Live. Popcity UK vol.5 is presented by Fiya House, funded by Arts Council England, and supported by Shoreditch Town Hall and Team London Bridge.

BWW Review: RUSSELL MALIPHANT DANCE COMPANY - SILENT LINES, Sadler's Wells

Sadler's Wells associate artist Russell Maliphant is renowned for his work studying the intricacies of the human body. New piece, first premiered earlier this year at DanceEast, Silent Lines, seeks to continue this endeavour with all of Maliphant's signature creative devices. 

Programme Announced For The London International Mime Festival

For 2020, the 44th year of London's annual festival of contemporary visual theatre, 10 overseas companies join 8 British groups, including 4 LIMF co-commissioned productions: This Time, a tender take on relationships and ageing from aerial theatre company Ockham's Razor; Romancing the Apocalypse from multi award winning dance duo Thick & Tight; Dead Good, a funny and poignant story of dying from full mask theatre company Vamos Theatre; and the story of one of showbiz's long overlooked partnerships, The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel performed by Told by an Idiot at new festival venue, the iconic Wilton's Music Hall.

SILENT LINES Comes to Rialto Theatre

The performance Silent Lines from United Kingdom which had postpone due to the national mourning for the death of the former president Demetris Christofias, will take place on Thursday 27th of June at Rialto Theatre. With this performance by Russel Maliphant, one of the most important world-acclaimed dancers and choreographers, concludes the 22nd Contemporary Dance Festival which gave the opportunity to contemporary dance aficionados to admire exceptional dance performances from eight different countries, reflecting contemporary dance trends, schools and movements.

THE MOTHER Comes to Southbank Centre

The Mother is a powerful, narrative dance production choreographed and directed by master storyteller Arthur Pita which has its London premiere at the Southbank Centre Queen Elizabeth Hall in June. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's dark tale, The Story of a Mother, this sumptuously designed production stars international dance superstar Natalia Osipova and award-winning contemporary dancer Jonathan Goddard.

BWW Review: THE THREAD, Sadler's Wells

Receiving its world premiere at Sadler's Wells, The Thread is acclaimed British choreographer and Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Russell Maliphant's new work. Staged in collaboration with Vangelis, Oscar winning composer of scores for the films Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner, it marks something of a departure for Maliphant. It was developed from an original concept by producer Georgia Iliopoulou who invited Maliphant to blend his signature approach to flow and energy in the body with traditional Greek dance.

Sadler's Wells Announces its Spring 2019 Season

Tickets are on sale from Monday 5 November at 9am for Sadler's Wells' Spring 2019 season, which features three world premieres, more than 15 UK premieres and a host of new creative partnerships involving artists from all over the world.

Festival Du Monaco Dance Forum 2018 Announced

In the first highlight of the season, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, accompanied by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, led by Kazuki Yamada, will perform a Hommage a Nijinsky, consisting of four choreographies in December.

BWW Review: ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET'S LEST WE FORGET, Sadler's Wells

It can be a rarity, but every so often, perhaps once a year if you're lucky, you stumble across a work so sublime it leaves you a little stumped as to how to describe it. Unfortunate when you need to review it, however. English National Ballet's Lest We Forget first opened in 2014, marking the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the first World War. Just two years into Tamara Rojo's tenure as Artistic Director, it was a bold statement about where the company was heading. Four years later it sits proudly in their repertoire, a modern masterpiece to absorb, devour and shed a tear.
