The 'extraordinarily beautiful and moving' concert/drama commemorates the courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp during World War II who performed Verdi's Requiem 16 times, as an act of defiance and resistance to their Nazi captors. Defiant Requiem is a complete live performance of Verdi's Requiem interspersed with historic film, testimony from survivors and narration that tells this tale of audacious bravery. For this performance, Murray Sidlin will conduct the full Verdi Requiem with the soloists, Pacific Chorale and Pacific Symphony.

Hartford Stage announced today the cast and creative team for Jeeves & Wooster in "Perfect Nonsense." The Olivier Award-winning comedy from brothers David and Robert Goodale will perform at Hartford Stage Thursday, March 21, through Saturday, April 20. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's season-long focus on the music of Russia comes to a highpoint in March with its annual Winter Festival, Russian Panorama, which will present four programs filled with Russian works composed between 1832 and 1979 (Mar. 10, 15, 19 & 24). The Festival's broad survey of repertoire will range from the age of the tsars to beyond the Soviet era, comprising works by Balakirev, Borodin, Glinka, Glazunov, Myaskovsky, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rubinstein, Schnittke, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Taneyev, and Tchaikovsky. Among the many superlative artists taking part in these concerts are acclaimed pianists Anne-Marie McDermottand Wu Han, violinists Chad Hoopes and Arnaud Sussmann, violist Matthew Lipman, and the legendary Borodin String Quartet, returning to CMS with its interpretation of quartets by several Russian composers, including its namesake, Borodin. In addition to performing masterworks from past centuries at major halls and with leading ensembles worldwide, pianist Kirill Gerstein has a deep interest in the music of our time, including that of composer Thomas Ad s, with whom he has formed a close artistic relationship and performs together twice next month at Carnegie Hall. On Wednesday, March 20 at 8:00 p.m., Mr. Gerstein gives the New York premiere of a new piano concerto composed for him by Mr. Ad s on commission from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which performs the work under the baton of the composer, who is the BSO's Artistic Partner. The concerto is the second work on the program, which opens with Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1 (orchestral version) and closes with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4.
