See All the Winners from the 62nd Annual Obie Awards!

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) are thrilled to announce the winners of the 62nd Annual Obie Awards®. Jennifer Kidwell & Scott R. Sheppard's Underground Railroad Game, produced by Ars Nova, and J.T. Roger's Oslo, produced by Lincoln Center Theater, shared the Obie Awards for Best New American Theatre Work, which is accompanied by a $500 prize each. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel received a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). Actor Jeffrey Wright, Artist Carrie Mae Weems to be Honored by National Youth Charity

Celebrities and other luminaries will converge on Gotham Hall in Manhattan as award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright and acclaimed artist Carrie Mae Weems are honored by The Brotherhood/Sister Sol (Bro/Sis), a nationally recognized, Harlem-based nonprofit and youth development organization, as it heads into its 22nd year transforming young lives. Other notables attending the organization's 13th annual VOICES benefit include actors Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Michael K. Williams, the Honorable David N.  Dinkins, 106th mayor of New York, the Honorable Cyrus Vance, New York County district attorney, film and television producers Terence and Rachel Winter, New York Times columnist Charles Blow and DJ Beverly Bond, founder and executive director of Black Girls Rock! The event, which takes place on Thursday, May 11, at Gotham Hall in Manhattan, is expected to draw 500 supporters.

BWW Review: Oprah Winfrey & Renee Elise Goldsberry to Star in HBO'S THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS By Rebecca Skloot

THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS by Rebecca Skloot is an amazing true story. It centers around Henrietta Lacks, a poor woman whom scientists experimented on in the 1950s at the Johns Hopkins Hospital 'colored' ward. She died when she was only 31 years old, however, through science, she has become immortal. Her cells led to several scientific breakthroughs such as the polio vaccine, and were the first human cells to ever be successfully cloned.

Sweat, the acclaimed new play by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, directed by Kate Whoriskey completed its long journey and opened last night on Broadway.
