Through interviews with stage and screen stars who honed their craft at Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), including David Auburn, Christine Baranski, André De Shields, Laura Linney, John Patrick Shanley, Sarah Jessica Parker and Sam Waterston, the film chronicles the career-making momentsthat have come to define MTC. Panelists include Tovah Feldshuh, the first Jewish actress to play Mrs. Rosie Brice in “Funny Girl,” and renowned lyricist Bruce Sussman (“Harmony”) and award-winning playwright Alfred Uhry (“Parade”), who will share their insights and experiences on this critical issue.

PBS has announced that the next installment of NEXT AT THE KENNEDY CENTER, a series from the pubcaster's multi-year collaboration with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will feature Ballet Hispánico's explosive portrait of Eva 'Evita' Perón.

Anchored by an unforgettable concert in the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall, the special explores how The Roots continue to push the boundaries of their art form while using their platform as the inaugural artist-in-residence of the Center’s Hip Hop Culture Program to foster the next generation of cultural leaders.

This special highlights the timeless and genre-defying influence of Joni Mitchell with an all-star lineup that includes Renée Fleming, Lalah Hathaway and Raul Midón, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Grammy Award winner Vince Mendoza.

Stars include Nadia Brown (“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”), Sara Esty (“The Phantom of the Opera”), Leslie Donna Flesner (“Funny Girl”), Ayana George (“MJ: The Musical”), L Morgan Lee (“A Strange Loop”), Andrea Macasaet (“Six: The Musical”), Caleb Marshall-Villarreal (“Moulin Rouge! Now, the new documentary American Masters: Tony – A Year in the Life of Dr. Anthony Fauci captures the most prominent physician in America at work  over a period of 14 months, beginning with Inauguration Day 2021, as he strives to improve national public health.

The series features novelist Jesmyn Ward; country music artist Lyle Lovett; poet and memoirist Natasha Trethewey; 'Raya and the Last Dragon' screenwriter Qui Nguyen; The Hate U Give author Angie Thomas; singer and guitarist Brittany Howard; playwright Katori Hall; and “Stranger Things” series creators Matt and Ross Duffer. 

A cross-disciplinary tour de force performed by Nashville Ballet, Great Performances: Black Lucy and The Bard explores the love life of William Shakespeare and his muses, the “Dark Lady” and the “Fair Youth,” presenting the idea that these subjects and inspirations in his love sonnets were a Black woman and a young man.

'Great Performances – Reopening: The Broadway Revival' is hosted by NY1's Frank DiLella. Kristin Chenoweth, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lea Salonga, Sara Bareilles and more are featured in the new documentary with and with exclusive footage from Aladdin, Wicked, Jagged Little Pill, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Phantom of the Opera, and Waitress.

Film interviewees include Gloria Estefan, Morgan Freeman, Mitzi Gaynor, Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Longoria, Justina Machado, Terrence McNally, Karen Olivo, as well as Norman Lear and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

An original film for television by the National Theatre, Great Performances: Romeo & Juliet premieres Friday, April 23 at 9 p.m. on PBS, pbs.org/gperf and the PBS Video app.
