BWW Review: CRY-BABY at The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre
by Melissa Giordano - Apr 18, 2018

In a Grease-meets-Romeo & Juliet type of tale, the Tony nominated musical Cry-Baby brings loads of laughs. The Long Island premiere - running through May 12th at The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center (CMPAC) - is superbly directed by Patrick Grossman - the Artistic Director of the Oakdale venue - and boasts an extraordinary cast. I've long admired the top notch comedic talent we have here on Long Island and the artists in this production certainly deliver sidesplitting performances.

Review: The Joffrey Ballet Presents ROMEO & JULIET with an Incredibly Beautiful Modern Take on Society vs. the Individual
by Shari Barrett - Mar 15, 2018

A story relevant to generations past and present, Shakespeare's cautionary tale of love serves as a modern metaphor for the influence of society over individual freedom. For although the personal journeys of Romeo & Juliet are integral to the tale, this is a love story within a clear social and political context - the collective identity of the group is considered more important than the desires of its citizens, dooming the young lovers from "opposite sides of the tracks" to their tragic end as their personal lives are molded by the hostilities of the previous era. Beginning in the 1930s during a time when a rigid dictatorial system had taken over the country, the Capulet family represents the upper-class conservatives with stiff, militaristic movement, while the Montagues represent the liberal low and middle classes, danced with loose, flowing motions laced with pedestrian naturalism.

BWW Review: Can Can's ROMEO + JULIET Sizzles
by Jay Irwin - Feb 24, 2018

It may be cold outside but it is so very hot inside the Can Can with their dazzling production of "Romeo + Juliet". But this is not your typical R+J with its rockin' vocals, thumpin' beat, and just the highlights of a storyline. Oh, and did I mention the cast seems to have trouble keeping their clothes on?

BWW Review: Feroz Abbas Khan's MUGHAL-E-AZAM at JLN Stadium
by Richa Das - Feb 6, 2018

Not enough people have bothered about Indian movies enough to revisit them and create visual spectacles out of them in other mediums. Growing up in this almost dystopian temporariness of televised art, it was refreshing and all the more exciting to sit through three hours of extraordinary story telling that Feroz Abbas Khan's Mughal-E-Azam the play engaged in. The experience is loaded with generous music, the purest of Urdu writing, remarkable production value and most importantly, an overwhelming ensemble of actors and dancers that bring India's most remembered cinematic episode live on stage.
