Firebird Youth Theater's OUR TOWN Opens April 27th 80 years after Wilder's brilliantly bittersweet portrait of small-town life first opened on Broadway, the people of Grover's Corners are back on the small stage, and they're almost ready to get started... in just a minute... any day now...

Firebird Youth Theater's performance-centric take on Our Town thrusts the Stage Manager narrator into the (possibly busted) spotlight. Leaning into Wilder's famous use of theatrical convention and absent fourth wall, this visit to Grover's Corners is visually styled after a tech rehearsal, where time is precious, somehow both sluggishly dragging and swiftly running out.

This metatheatrical framing hits close to home for the teen-run Firebird, which has been independently producing theatre in New York City since 2013. OUR TOWN will be the company's sixth annual production, following last year's mixed-age modern-day Romeo + Juliet. Firebird's past three shows all received National Youth Arts awards for Direction and Ensemble.

18-year-old director and Firebird founder Leo Lion says, "OUR TOWN is a universal story that grapples with the significance (or insignificance) of the fleeting little things we do. As a maker of theatre, I find these kind of questions incredibly potent. What can any of us do to make our lives count? In the midst of always getting ready, what can we ever know about the final product?"

"Our Town" is presented by special arrangement by SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
