Bickford Film Series Salutes 50th Anniversary of THE PRODUCERS

The Bickford Theatre celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest comedies to ever hit the big screen, The Producers, written and directed by the legendary Mel Brooks and staring Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Dick Shawn, and Kenneth Mars. The film won an Academy Award in 1968 for Best Original Screenplay.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its Spring 2018 Music Series on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 7:30pm with a screening of the 1920 silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, accompanied by the New York premiere of an inventive score for the film by Stephen Prutsman performed live by New York's Puck Quartet. The film tells the story of a hypnotist who uses a sleepwalker to commit crimes. Directed by Robert Wiene, written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer, and dubbed “the first true horror film” by critic Roger Ebert, it is considered a classic.

The Santa Barbara Symphony, under the baton of guest conductor Carolyn Kuan, will perform John Corigliano's Academy Award-winning score for The Red Violin, accompanied by Fran ois Girard's engrossing film in its entirety, at the Granada Theatre on Saturday, January 20, and Sunday, January 21. Featuring Canadian violinist Lara St. John as soloist, the concerts will take place at 8 pm on January 20 and at 3 pm on January 21. Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, celebrating its roots in the film and television recording industry, presents LACO @ the Movies: Buster Keaton's The General, featuring Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards) conducting the world premiere of his score for the 1926 silent classic spotlighting the absurdity of war on Saturday, November 11, 2017, 8 pm, at The Theatre at Ace Hotel, in downtown Los Angeles. Currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, LACO was founded in 1968 as an artistic outlet for the recording industry's most gifted musicians. The Orchestra, regarded as one of the world's premier chamber orchestras as well as a pacesetter in presenting wide-ranging repertoire and adventurous commissions, performs live to The General for this entertaining evening. Considered among the greatest films ever made, the historical parody was adapted from The Great Locomotive Chase and is set during the Civil War. The Theatre at Ace Hotel was built in 1927, just a year after The General was made.
