Over 125 Playwrights Participate in WRITE OUT FRONT Live at the Drama Book Shop This Month

Theaterspeak will present WRITE OUT FRONT, an installation of over 125 award-winning and up-and-coming playwrights writing new plays in the storefront window of the Drama Book Shop during store hours, today, August 1st - 31st. In each two-hour time slot for WRITE OUT FRONT, a different playwright will write a new play on a laptop, while the screen shot of their computer is projected onto a 42' monitor facing the passersby on the street, making their normally private creative process public.

40 Full Productions, Music & Film Festivals and More Set for PCTF, 5/12-6/8

The full lineup has been announced for the 2014 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, New York's premiere eco-friendly/socially-conscious theatre festival running from May 12-June 8 at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street) upstairs & downstairs theaters. With 40 full productions, over 10 free staged readings, music & film festivals and more, one thing that makes Planet Connections unique is that each show partners with a charity and some of the ways they offer support are soliciting donations at shows, holding special benefit performances, fundraisers and/or talkbacks after performances with charity representatives. The music festival will take place at 8pm on May 21, 22 & June 5 at R Bar (218 Bowery).

Articulate Theatre Company Kicks Off 2014 Season with ARTICULATING THE ARTS: A THOUSAND WORDS, 3/17-18

Articulate Theatre Company is proud to be kicking off its 2014 season with Articulating the Arts: A Thousand Words, a riff on the world of classic painting, on Monday, March 17th and Tuesday, March 18th, 2014, as a guest production at Theaterlab, at 357 W. 36th St., 3rd floor. Just last week, Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group announced the casting and initial tour schedule for their spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera launching a major North American Tour in Providence, R.I. at the Providence Performing Arts Center. With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, this new version of PHANTOM, the most successful musical of all-time, will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this one of the largest productions on tour in North America. 59E59 Theaters has announced the 2012 line up for the 8th annual EAST TO EDINBURGH festival, beginning tonight, July 10 for a limited engagement through Sunday, July 29. Each July, 59E59 Theaters hosts a plethora of innovative US productions en route to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world. Created as a way to help shows get on their feet before flying off to Scotland, EAST TO EDINBURGH simulates the same production constraints that all shows experience during the Festival, while giving them a clean, comfortable and nurturing space to fine-tune their productions. This whirlwind three-week festival, featuring 16 productions, reflects some of the most adventurous theater from NY and across the US.
