Brevard Music Center Sets 2016 Summer Music Festival, 80th Anniversary Events

This summer, over a ten-week period spanning June to August, Brevard Music Center (BMC) celebrates a historic 80th Anniversary with over eighty performances in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. BMC's 2016 Summer Music Festival features a number of firsts—the operatic world-premiere of Falling Angel, an inaugural Jazz Institute, and a Dvo?ák in America Festival—in addition to an array of world-class artists including Grammy-winning banjo legend Béla Fleck, acclaimed pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and esteemed BMC alumni.

The New York Philharmonic has announced Chinese-born American violinist,  Frank Huang as their new Concertmaster.  Huang has served as the Arizona Musicfest Orchestra Concertmaster for the last two seasons and intends to return to the Arizona Musicfest Orchestra in February 2016.

The Columbus Symphony today announced its 2014-15 Masterworks and Pops seasons. Masterworks will continue to present eight concerts at the Ohio Theatre and four concerts at the Southern Theatre. All Pops concerts will remain at the Ohio Theatre.

Ravinia's 2014 season, dubbed 'Summer of Love/Season of Stars,' was announced today by Ravinia President and CEO Welz Kauffman. Brimming with talent and romance, the festival's 2014 schedule brings some the biggest names in the world of music as well as repertoire that explores the theme of great love in its various manifestations. No fewer than three musical incarnations of the most famous love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet, will be featured, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky's Overture-Fantasy (July 27), a suite from Prokofiev's ballet setting of the story (July 16) and the score of West Side Story as the classic film is shown (July 17-18). In other examples of love, soprano Deborah Voigt describes it as 'Something Wonderful' on a Broadway evening (July 13), the legendary Broadway team of Lerner and Loewe will be celebrated (July 20), and Chanticleer even jabs at the battle of the sexes in an evening titled 'She Said/He Said' (July 6). In fact, love lurks, longs and lingers across genres in most of the more than 130 events that Ravinia will present in 2014, its 110th year and its 78th as the summer residence of the CSO.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks, Friday and Saturday, August 16 and 17, at 8 pm, at the Hollywood Bowl. Robert Moody conducts the orchestra in the all-Tchaikovsky program which includes Selections from Swan Lake Suite, Op. 20, Capriccio Italien, Festival Coronation March and a Ukrainian Folk Song Suite (drawn from the Symphony No. 2). The annual Bowl tradition offers a new twist this season - the brass, drum corps and color guard of three of California's top-ranked drum and bugle corps, Pacific Crest, Santa ClaraVanguard, and the Vanguard Cadets, recent winners of the Drum Corp International Open Class World Championship Finals, performing in a Drumline-style collaboration. The program culminates with the thrilling 1812 Overture accompanied by cannons and a spectacular fireworks display.
