Today in 2003 Avenue Q opened at the John Golden Theatre, where it ran for 2534 performances. Avenue Q was conceived by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, who wrote the music and lyrics. The book was written by Jeff Whitty and the show was directed by Jason Moore. Avenue Q is an 'autobiographical and biographical' coming-of-age parable, addressing and satirizing the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood. It opened Off-Broadway in March 2003, co-produced by The New Group and the Vineyard Theatre, and later won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and spawned Las Vegas and West End productions, two national tours, and a variety of international productions. Currently playing at New World Stages (340 W. 50 St.), today will be declared AVENUE Q DAY by the City of New York in honor of the show's 10th anniversary.

Earlier this year, on March 18, Van Dean, Kenny Howard, and Michael J. Moritz, Jr. brought together a melange of Broadway's most impressive young talent for WHEN I GROW UP: BROADWAY'S NEXT GENERATION, a cabaret concert at 54 BELOW. Kenny Howard says that this group inspired him 'not only with their talents but also with a maturity that is far beyond their years.' For this cabaret concert, the children tackle the adult repertoire of their heroes, taking on music from SPRING AWAKENING, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, AVENUE Q, [TITLE OF SHOW], and more.

As the Furries leave Pittsburgh, another group of fuzzy characters have arrived from NYC and taken up residence in Carnegie. They are the cast members of Avenue Q, music and lyrics by Robert Lopez & Jeff Marks ; book by Jeff Whitty, presented this month by STAGE 62.

The producers of THE BOOK OF MORMON and The Nederlander Organization announced today five additional weeks of performances have been added to the originally announced return engagement. The show will begin performances January 21 at Hollywood Pantages Theatre and play through March 16, 2014.

Mazeppa Productions will be the first resident theatre company to bring the 2004 Tony Award-winning musical AVENUE Q to life in Philadelphia. AVENUE Q's opening on July 11, 2013 will mark the start of Mazeppa's third season of musical productions as well as its second season at the Christ Church Neighborhood House Theater in Old City, Philadelphia. Director Rob Henry, choreographer Robert Harris, and music director Eric Thompson will lead the eleven person company in staging the hilarious musical that is part flesh, part felt, and full of heart!
