On this day in 1998, Roundabout's sumptuous revival of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret opened on Broadway starring Alan Cumming and Natasha Richardson.

There is ofttimes a quality difference from non-equity versus equity tours. The former is comprised of young actors earning their stripes. For many it is their first tour. Any deviation from a highly professional, class A production was not evident with CABARET, at The Playhouse through March 18. This is a great, glamorous and gripping show.

In The Wings Productions, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tanya Glassman and Executive Producer Adam Glassman, is proud to present Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's award-winning musical Into the Woods from March 16 through 25 at Snug Harbor's historic Music Hall.

Later tonight, Hollywood royalty will gather at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to salute the greatest achievements of the year in motion pictures. Of course, Broadway will be in the house with nominees for Best Original Song- a category that has a rich history of musical theatre representation. Before the big night we're taking a closer look at the last twenty years of where Broadway and Best Original Song have met!

One thing becomes abundantly clear while witnessing Bailey McCall Thomas' emotionally charged performance of the song 'Cabaret' during a performance of the iconic Broadway musical of the same name: there is perhaps no 'title song' quite so evocative, quite so stunning as John Kander and Fred Ebb's composition for Cabaret. For it is during that song, performed by Sally Bowles in a Weimar era nightclub in Berlin, that the show's entire focus - every theme that shapes the work in order to tell its totally engrossing and entertaining story - is brought sharply into view, set to a memorable melody that seems at once to be both joyous and mournful, ensuring that every audience member experiences a response unique to them.

Traversing the world as we know it, the journey from Weimar Germany in the 1920s to Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center in 2018 is a circuitous, challenging one for Bailey McCall Thomas, the talented University of Tennessee graduate now playing the iconic Sally Bowles in the national touring company of the Kander and Ebb musical Cabaret.

I believe that I can safely attest that this particular revival of CABARET, which met its incipience with the Donmar Warehouse production in London way back in 1993, bears the graces of a masterwork that has stood the test of time.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas   Capezio Dance Foundation presents: Capezio celebrates 130 years of excellence in a one-night only special Awards and show on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 7:30 pm at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Avenue, Las Vegas NV 89106.  A glorious production will highlight some of the magical history of Capezio with numerous dance legends and stars of stage and screen saluting this milestone.  The show is produced and directed by Ann Marie DeAngelo. The show benefts The Actors Fund and Future Dance (a program sponsored by Nevada Ballet Theatre). This is the first time that the Capezio Dance Awards are being presented to receipients of various dance genres.

February 19, 2018 - Based on Roundabout Theatre Company's Tony Award-winning production, Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) and Rob Marshall's (Into the Woods and Chicago, the films) CABARET will play The Playhouse on Rodney Square in Wilmington for eight performances, March 13-19. This is the first time the Broadway revival has toured the historic Wilmington theater.

Based on Roundabout Theatre Company's Tony Award-winning production, Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall's CABARET comes to the State Theatre on Sunday, March 11th.

Despite my well-earned affection for the Tony-winning 1998 Roundabout Theatre Company production of the classic Kander and Ebb Broadway classic CABARET, I still found myself vigorously entertained by McCoy Rigby Entertainment's flashy and buoyant new 2018 regional production of this theatrical staple, under the solid direction of Larry Carpenter and featuring spectacular musical performances from its lead cast. This deliciously bawdy but at times sneakily ominous musical continues performances at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through February 11, 2018.
