HERE's 2015-16 Season to Feature Three Premieres & More

HERE announces its 2015-2016 producing season, featuring three HERE Resident Artist productions, an Artistic Director production, the fourth annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now festival and HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival, which gives audiences a first look at new work in process from artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP).  The multidisciplinary works in HERE's 2015-2016 season represent the culmination of commissions and developmental residencies of up to three years through HARP, and/or the Dream Music Puppetry Program.

Theater with a View to Bring CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION to Sycamore Hill Next Month

Theater with a View is bringing a production of Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker to Pottstown, PA. The play will open Thursday, July 23 for an eight-performance run outdoors at Sycamore Hill, the home of Drs. Veronica Covalesky and Nick Leasure, at 481 Ebelhare Road. Directed by Seth Reich, the production features a cast of New York actors.

'FORUM,' 'WILD THINGS' & More Set for Two River Theater's 2015-16 Season

Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, announces the lineup of productions for its 2015/16 Season. The season will launch in September with August Wilson's Seven Guitars, directed by Brandon J. Dirden and will include the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, directed by Jessica Stone; a new music-theater production of Shakespeare's Pericles created by Rinde Eckert and David Schweizer; and the Transport Group's critically acclaimed production of I Remember Mama, directed by Jack Cummings III.

New Musical MAX UNDERSTOOD Runs Now thru 4/26 at Cowell Theater

The Paul Dresher Ensemble, in co-production with Fort Mason Center Presents and Behavioral Intervention for Autism, announces the World Premiere of Nancy Carlin and Michael Rasbury's new musical MAX UNDERSTOOD for a two-week limited engagement, April 16 - 26, 2015 in the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center, San Francisco. The production will have a press opening on Thursday, April 16, 8 pm and previews tonight, April 15, 8 pm.

Artists Rep Welcomes Director of New Play Development & Dramaturgy

Artists Repertory Theatre announces the launch of its ambitious New Play Development Program by naming Luan Schooler Director of New Play Development & Dramaturgy. Schooler will begin the post April 13, 2015. At the end of 2014, Artists Rep conducted a national search to find the right match for this position and the aesthetic of the theatre.

Guthrie Theater Welcomes New Artistic Director

The Guthrie Theater announced today that Joseph Haj will become its eighth artistic director in July 2015, succeeding Joe Dowling. The announcement by Board Chair Lee Skold and Search Committee Chair Patricia Simmons ends an extensive year-long search.

OPERA America Reveals Female Composer Grant Recipients

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera, has announced the first recipients of Commissioning Grants from the Opera Grants for Female Composers program, made possible through the generosity of The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. These grants help support the commissioning of works by talented women composing for the stages of OPERA America Professional Company Members.

KATHERINE'S COLORED LIEUTENANT to Open Geva's 2015 Fielding Studio Series

Geva Theatre Center's 2015 Fielding Studio Series begins with the world premiere of Katherine's Colored Lieutenant by Nora Cole and is directed by David Schweizer. The production begins performances on February 5 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through February 22.

SMOKE AND MIRRORS Opens Next Month at The Odyssey

The magic continues when one of L.A.'s most beloved and longest running shows, Smoke and Mirrors moves to the Odyssey Theatre on Jan. 17 through March 15. Created by and starring noted actor and lifetime member of the Magic Castle, Albie Selznick and co-produced with Ron Sossi, artistic director of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, the L.A. Times Critic's Choice smash hit directed by David Schweizer makes its debut in West L.A.

BWW Interviews: PROTOTYPE Festival Producers Kristin Marting, Kim Whitener, and Beth Morrison

This holiday season, Kristin Marting, Kim Whitener, and Beth Morrison are making their lists and checking them twice. In mid-January, they'll be producing seven separate shows over ten days as part of PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now, a festival of opera-theatre and music-theatre. While PROTOTYPE is only in its third year, it has already established itself as the crucible for contemporary opera and theater in New York City. BWW sat down with the three co-producers at HERE, PROTOTYPE'S epicenter, to chat about each of the upcoming festival's unique offerings.

This year the organization honored Jules Fisher, Lynn Nottage, and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation at 583 Park Avenue in New York City. The performances included previews of two productions from TCG Member Theatres: A Walk on the Moon (New York Stage and Film) and Immediate Family (About Face Theatre, Center Theatre Group, and the Goodman Theatre). New Musical MAX UNDERSTOOD to Play Cowell Theater in 2015

The Paul Dresher Ensemble has announced the creative team and dates for the world premiere of the new musical MAX UNDERSTOOD created by Nancy Carlin and Michael Rasbury, and directed by celebrated opera and theater director David Schweizer. This innovative musical theater production will have a two week run April 15th through 26th at San Francisco's Cowell Theater, with an Opening Night on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
