Courtney Love Will Lead KANSAS CITY CHOIR BOY Opera at Prototype Festival

According to the New York Times, musician Courtney Love will soon star in Todd Almond's new opera KANSAS CITY CHOIR BOY, which will premiere at Prototype 2015. The production will run January 7-17. Love told NYT: 'I love the concept, and I'm loving the music. I'm playing it constantly. I'm looking to do things that are different. I just finished a rock tour of Australia, and it was great, but I've been doing that for a long time. I wanted to do something challenging.'

City of Berkeley Proclaims September 30, 2014 'Tony Taccone Day' in Honor of Berkeley Rep's Artistic Director

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announces that the City of Berkeley has proclaimed Tuesday, September 30, 2014 Tony Taccone Day. This day will honor Berkeley Rep's Michael Leibert Artistic Director Tony Taccone as a pioneer in contemporary American theatre. Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates will host a ceremony to present Taccone an official proclamation between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM in the City Council Chambers at 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The ceremony will be broadcast on local radio through KPFB Radio 89.3 and on television through Cable B-TV, Channel 33.

The Miller Theatre Opens 2014-15 Season with HEART & BREATH Tonight

Miller opens its fall season with a captivating new production. Sparking a music dialogue across centuries, Heart & Breath deftly combines modern arrangements of music by Gesualdo and Monteverdi with contemporary works that blend music, dance, and theater, including composer Amy Beth Kirsten's 'wildly imaginative' (Washington Post)Colombine's Paradise Theatre. The six musicians of eighth blackbird play, speak, sing, whisper, growl, and mime, breathing theatrical life into the timeless characters of thecommedia dell'arte in this uniquely immersive concert experience.

LOVEBIRDS Coming to Marsh Berkeley this September

LOVEBIRDS, fresh from its New York City premiere at La MaMa Theater, moves to The Marsh Berkeley. A rollicking tale of incurable romantics from GLAAD award-winning solo theater artist and comedian Marga Gomez, LOVEBIRDS enjoyed a critically acclaimed six-month original run at The Marsh San Francisco as well as a tour to the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival. Directed by David Schweizer in his sixth collaboration with Gomez, LOVEBIRDS will transfer to The Marsh Berkeley (2120 Allston Way) with performances Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 8:30pm. HERE Sets 2014-15 Season: TRADE PRACTICES, BLOOWST WINDKU & More

HERE announces its 2014-2015 producing season, commencing Labor Day Weekend with the premiere of the Artistic Director production, Trade Practices, by Kristin Marting & David Evans Morris; and followed by the HERE Resident Artist productions Send for the Million Men by Joseph Silvosky and Bloowst windku by Rebecca Davis. HERE's upcoming season also includes the third annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/ Now festival and HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival, which gives audiences a first look at new work in process from artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). The multidisciplinary productions in HERE's 2014-2015 season represent the culmination of commissions and developmental residencies of up to three years through HARP, and/or the Dream Music Puppetry Program.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre to Present Tony Kushner's 'THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE', Begin. 5/16

Berkeley Repertory Theatre welcomes back Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner for the West Coast premiere of his latest play, The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, an epic tale of love, family, sex, money, and politics. Kushner reunites with one of his favorite collaborators, Michael Leibert Artistic Director Tony Taccone, to bring this sweeping drama to the Roda Theatre. With his trademark mix of soaring intellect and searing emotion, the legendary writer unfurls a poignant story about an Italian family in Brooklyn. When retired longshoreman Gus Marcantonio decides to die, his kids come home with a raucous parade of lovers and spouses to find that even the house keeps secrets. A portrait of a dysfunctional family filled with weighty dialogue, humor, and passion, Kushner's four-act play previews Friday, May 16, opens on Wednesday, May 21, and runs through Sunday, June 29, 2014.

Five Boroughs Music Festival's 2013-2014 season concludes this May with a presentation of the groundbreaking vocal ensemble ROOMFUL OF TEETH. Fresh off their 2014 Grammy win for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, this genre-bending group will join us for a program of vocal works which showcase the ensemble's wide vocabulary of singing techniques. The program will feature works by William Brittelle, Elliot Cole, Merrill Garbus, Judd Greenstein, Missy Mazzoli, and Sarah Kirkland Snider, as well as RFOT's own, Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw.

5BMF is thrilled to welcome masters of the French Baroque LES DELICES to our artist roster this March. The ensemble will bring their new program Conversations galantes to NYC for the first time, with performances at King Manor Museum (Jamaica, Queens) on March 14th (Manhattan) on March 15th.The program features French Rococo works by 18th century composers including Philidor, Guillemain, Rameau and others. 5BMF's season concludes in May with a presentation of the groundbreaking vocal ensemble ROOMFUL OF TEETH. Fresh off their 2014 Grammy win for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, this genre-bending group will join us for a program of vocal works which showcase the ensemble's wide vocabulary of singing techniques. The program will feature works by Elliot Cole, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Missy Mazzoli, as well as selections from Caroline Shaw's 2013 Pulitzer Prize winning Partita.

The Welders to Present THE CAROLINA LAYAWAY GRAIL, Begin. 3/22

The Welders-Washington's only playwrights' collective devoted exclusively to developing and producing new work-have launched their inaugural production. The Carolina Layaway Grail, a new play by Allyson Currin, opens March 22, 2014 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center under the direction of Sonya Robbins.

Culture Project to Stage Dan Hoyle THE REAL AMERICANS, Mike Albo's THE JUNKET, Begin. 3/13

Culture Project will examine contemporary American mores with two journalistic theater pieces in rep. Straight from Joe's Pub, The Real Americans, a compelling and uniquely galvanizing new work written and performed by Dan Hoyle, will join The Junket, a new, hilariously scandalous solo show based on scandalous actual events, written and performed by Mike Albo, coming to Culture Project from an extended run at Dixon Place. Performances begin March 13rd and run until April 20th at the Lynn Redgrave Theater (45 Bleecker Street, NYC).
