Aus unterschiedlichen Quellen kompilierte der tschechische Dichter Jaroslav Kvapil eine neue Version des Stoffes fu?r ein Libretto, das Antoni?n Dvor?a?k vertonte. Im Zentrum eine scho?ne Nixe: Rusalka. Das vorletzte Werk des Komponisten entstand um 1900 und ist musikalisch ebenso der tschechischnationalen Schule verbunden wie auch in einzelnen Aspekten dem Musikdrama Richard Wagners. Nach 25 Jahren kommt es an der Wiener Staatsoper nun zu einer Neuproduktion dieses wichtigen zentralen osteuropa?ischen Werks.

Parma-based Artemis Danza, one of the most beloved dance companies in Italy, makes it United States debut with its highly acclaimed production of 'Traviata' at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 East 60th Street, for one performance tonight, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. Under the leadership of Monica Casadei, the company's acclaimed adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi's 'La Traviata,' based on Alexandre Dumas play 'La Dame aux Camelias,' is presented as part of a celebration of the bicentenary of Giuseppe Verdi's birth and the year of Italian Culture in the United States. Tickets ($15) are now on sale.

Einmaliges Konzert der weltbekannten Mezzosopranistin Gail Gilmore im Papageno Musiktheater am 15. Dezember Nach ihrem umjubelten Gastauftritt als Ortrud bei dem Konzertabend „Kennen Sie Wagner?" auf der Papageno-Buhne, der vom Publikum mit Worten wie: „Das war absolute Weltklasse" kommentiert wurde, folgt am 15. Dezember um 19.30 Uhr im Papageno Musiktheater ein einmaliges, eigens fur das Theater konzipierte „Gospelkonzert mit Gail Gilmore". Die afroamerikanische Mezzosopranistin dokumentiert musikalisch und textlich eine Zeitreise von Afrika nach Amerika, vom Spiritual uber Gospel zum Jazz. Sie selber nennt es eine „Musikalische Dokumentation der Sklaverei". Begleitet wird sie am Piano von Professor Jan Lenselink aus Amsterdam.

Most folks are familiar with the feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys. History is filled with rivalries that often lead to violence, murder and sometimes love. A Love to Die For explores the many facets of forbidden love as only the great master composers could write. Main Street Opera presents a program of duet scenes entitled A Love to Die For on May 5, 2013. Four stories of forbidden love written by four of the most famous of composers; Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Giuseppe Verdi's Don Carlos, Georges Bizet's Carmen, and Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.

This enduring fairy tale of lost children, candy treats, and an evil witch comes to life for the holiday season in this delightful production.
