Sarasota Opera has announced its 2013 - 2014 Fall and Winter programming which will mark the company's 55th consecutive season of performing grand opera on the Florida gulf coast. Highlights will include the return of some of Sarasota Opera's most acclaimed productions, the Sarasota Opera premiere of Verdi's Jerusalem as part of the ongoing Verdi Cycle, and the debut of new concerts to the Sarasota Opera Concert Series.
Italy's Artemis Danza Makes American Debut with TRAVIATA, 11/14

Parma-based Artemis Danza, one of the most beloved dance companies in Italy, makes it United States debut with its highly acclaimed production of "Traviata" at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 East 60th Street, for one performance Thursday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. Under the leadership of Monica Casadei, the company's acclaimed adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata," based on Alexandre Dumas play "La Dame aux Camelias," is presented as part of a celebration of the bicentenary of Giuseppe Verdi's birth and the year of Italian Culture in the United States. Tickets ($15) are now on sale.

Opera San Jose? (OSJ) continues its 30th Anniversary Season with Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. This enduring fairy tale of lost children, candy treats, and an evil witch comes to life for the holiday season in this delightful production. Hansel and Gretel will be sung in English, with English supertitles. Daniel Harding, awarded the Premio Abbiati by Italian music critics as best conductor of 2011, celebrates Wagner's centenary with the Prelude and Death of Isolde, the symphonic piece with which Wagner introduced Tristan und Isolde in concert halls while he was still struggling to have it performed in theaters. The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) celebrates the 200th anniversary of composer Richard Wagner's birth (May 22, 1813) with an unprecedented series of events this month. Beginning on Friday, Oct. 11, and running through Thursday, Oct. 24, CCM explores Wagner's iconic work and enduring legacy with a series of guest lectures, film screenings and a concert performance by the CCM Philharmonia. Aside from the Oct. 12 Philharmonia performance, these events are free and open to the general public.

Washington National Opera (WNO) opens its 2013-2014 season with a production honoring the 200th birthday of one of opera's most renowned composers: Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, today, September 15 through the 27th in the Kennedy Center Opera House. This epic romantic drama stars Deborah Voigt as Isolde and Ian Storey and Clifton Forbis as Tristan, and will be seen in a production new to Washington directed by Neil Armfield in his WNO debut. WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin leads the WNO Orchestra in interpreting some of Wagner's most passionate and powerful music.
