Am morgigen Samstag, 12. April geht die Premiere von Richard Wagners Lohengrin u?ber die Bu?hne der Wiener Staatsoper.

This April (11-12 & 17-19), Ram's Head Theatrical Society at Stanford University will bring Bay Area audiences a reinvented production of the musical phenomenon Les Miserables. This production will include a special immersive element called the Opera-Going Experience Project. Created by Stanford students specifically for this production, this element seeks to transport the audience to a 19th century opera house and immerse them in the culture surrounding it before, during, and after the show itself.

Houston Grand Opera's first ever Ring Cycle is about to kick off with what is promised to be a spellbinding and incredibly visual production of Richard Wagner's DAS RHEINGOLD. As audiences grow all the more eager to see the show of this groundbreaking show, I chatted with Christopher Purves, who is portraying Alberich, about his career and what audiences could expect from this and highly anticipated production.

Seattle Opera concludes its 50th Anniversary season, as well as the 31-year tenure of General Director Speight Jenkins with The Tales of Hoffmann (Les contes d'Hoffmann). An all-star cast sings Jacques Offenbach's tuneful score, chronicling famous writer E.T.A. Hoffmann's misadventures in love. The wild stories of Hoffmann's failed romances come alive with fantastical elements: a beautiful robot, an evil optician, a stolen shadow, death by music, and a mysterious boy/girl muse. The Tales of Hoffmann was first produced jointly by Dallas, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Arizona operas in 2005. This timeless, stylish, and imaginative production returns to Seattle Opera on Saturday, May 3, and runs through Saturday, May 17.

Modernist composer Arnold Schoenberg's landmark work, Pierrot lunaire, was recently the focus of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's award-winning Beyond the Score® series. That performance has been added to a selection of other Beyond the Score® presentations which can be streamed at no cost at the CSO's online magazine, Sounds & Stories (www.cso.org/sas).

Join Maestro Schulz and Friends for an afternoon of beautiful serenades. A chamber orchestra comprising musicians from the BSO will perform Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings and Richard Wagner's Siegfried Idyll. At the end of his life Elgar proclaimed that - of all his music - his Serenade was his favorite. Lithe and gracious, this charming work for strings has become a staple of the string repertory.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) consistently brings the best the opera world has to offer to Houston stages. Time and time again, they cast operas with incredible talent and put on productions that are visually stunning as well. Their latest production of RIGOLETTO is no exception. Everything that makes performances at HGO exciting was perfectly in place. The auditorium was buzzing with excitement about the show, the cast was vocally impressive and on point, and the orchestra was playing with all the gusto and pizzazz that Giuseppe Verdi's darkly toned score requires.

Following the critical success of last fall's production of Die Fledermaus, Sarasota Opera will open its 2014 Winter Festival Season today, February 8, 2014 marking the company's 55th consecutive season of bringing grand opera to the Florida gulf coast.
