Sunset Boulevard at the West End's intimate Comedy Theatre closes today May 30, 2009. UK theatre sources are reporting that plans are in the works to launch a UK tour in early 2010 as well as some talk of bringing the production to New York, but no official announcement has yet been made.

Kids adore Horrid Henry. Currently, he's one of the most popular characters in children's fiction and is coming to the West End in Horrid Henry - Live and Horrid! opening at the Trafalgar Studios on 21 November for a limited Christmas run until 11 January.
The current national tour of the Stephen Sondheim/Hugh Wheeler musical 'Sweeney Todd' blew into the Windy City for a two-week engagement at the Cadillac Palace Theatre this week, revealing that the show is so strong as originally written that almost any style of storytelling will reveal its truths. If this fact doesn't mark the show as a true performing arts masterwork, then I don't know how anything else could. This show, and this metaphor-laden production of it, are miraculous in their revealing of the human condition.
Alexander Gemignani, who treaded the dark alleys of Fleet Street as the Beadle in the Broadway revival Sweeney Todd, will portray the title role in the national tour beginning November 13, while David Hess is 'on leave from the show to recover from vocal strain,' reports the production spokespersons.
Sweeney Todd begins its National Tour, with a pre-tour engagement at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theatre (ACT). Previews at ACT begin August 30.

Australian-born actor/singer Andrew Bevis will play the title role of Martin Guerre in Craig Revel-Horwood's re-invention of the Boublil and Schonberg musical at the Watermill Theatre, Newbury from July 11 to September 1. Having begun his career as a musician and musical director, Bevis first gained attention down under as a musical theatre performer when he was cast in a revival of 'Hello Dolly', playing alongside Warren Mitchell and the grande dame of Australian musical theatre, Jill Perryman. In the West End he played star-crossed lover Romeo in the ill-fated Gerard Presgurvic/Don Black musical 'Romeo and Juliet', Marius in 'Les Miserables' and wowed audiences as the 'chick with a dick' in 'Jerry Springer, the Opera'.
