PlayPenn, Philadelphia's nationally recognized professional new play development organization, will hold its 12th annual New Play Development Conference from July 5 - July 24 in Philadelphia at The Drake, a new home for new plays. The Conference, including three weeks of intensive work on six works-in-progress, will offer staged readings open to the public. The six selected plays and playwrights are:

"I'm just a stupid mom....who would want to hear me sing?" griped one band member before shedding her soccer mom image and launching into international rockstar success. In MoM: A ROCK CONCERT MUSICAL, five suburban 40-something moms form a rock group and learn how "rock and roll saved [their] sorry ass souls." This is a story of five everyday, normal housewives who forfeit their homemaking duties, throw aside their "granny underwear," leave the kids with Dad, and decide to follow their own dreams. "Why can't HE take care of the kids for a change?" they ask. As one mom aptly puts it, "Sometimes it's been a nightmare, and other times a dream come true."

Mind The Gap Theatre and Early Bird Theatricals will present Jessica Fleitman's award winning comedy The Average-Sized Mermaid in August 2011 at The New York International Fringe Festival. The production will be directed by Mind The Gap's Artistic Director, Paula D'Alessandris (Under The Blue Sky at The Kraine; The Cleric at 59E59).
