The willingness to suspend disbelief is a long-standing tradition in live theatre, and as long as playwrights and directors firmly establish their boundaries of realism, it's reasonable for audience members to go along with them.

Happy opening! THIS FLAT EARTH, directed by Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman, held its Opening Night at Playwrights Horizons last night! The performance marked the play's World Premiere. Other members of the theatre community, including Lois Smith and Jamie Brewer, joined the cast and crew for last night's celebration.

After a competitive national search, Cleveland Play House (CPH) selected Sarah Wansley to join the company for the 2018-19 season as the Artistic Directing Fellow. This Fellowship, designed to address inequities in the field, is for experienced female theatre directors with regional theatre leadership aspirations. Wansley will work alongside CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley and Associate Artistic Director Robert Barry Fleming learning theatre management, producing methods, and administration skills. She will also direct the fall CWRU/CPH MFA production, to be announced at a later date, and the New Ground Theatre Festival production of The Wolves, in the spring of 2019.

MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) is thrilled to announce their critically acclaimed, sold out, extended production of School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play, written by 2017-18 Tow Playwright-in-Residence Jocelyn Bioh, and directed by Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman, will return to New York, playing a strictly limited engagement this fall. Tickets are now on sale for School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play which will begin previews at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street) on Tuesday, October 16, with an official opening night set for Monday, October 22, 2018. The show is set to run through November 25, 2018. Additional information, including casting, will be announced shortly.

Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) begins accepting entries today, Monday, April 2, for the Live for Five online lottery for $5 tickets to the world premiere of DANCE NATION, the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize-winning new play by Obie Award winner Clare Barron (You Got Older, I'll Never Love Again).  Directed and choreographed by Obie Award winner Lee Sunday Evans (Caught, D Deb Debbie Deborah, A Beautiful Day in November…, [Porto]), the play is the fifth production of the theater company's 2017/2018 Season.

The little OPERA theatre of ny (LOTNY), in collaboration with New York based period ensemble New Vintage Baroque,presents the New York City Premiere of Piramo e Tisbe at Baruch Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Avenue, NYC, from March 22-25, 2018, with performances on Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3pm. Based upon the story of Pyramus and Thisbe from Ovid's Metamorphoses with a libretto by Marco Coltellini, Piramo e Tisbe is byJohann Adolph Hasse, a pivotal opera composer of the 18th Century celebrated for his sweet and tender melodies. On March 14, Lindsey Ferrentino will be the honorary guest author at the "American Dramaturgies for the 21st Century" International Theatre Conference at the Sorbonne. The evening will give Parisian audiences a chance to familiarize themselves with modern American Playwrights and will feature readings from contemporary plays and a conversation with Ms. Ferrentino, a gifted and truly brilliant member of the young generation of American dramatists.

INDECENT is a play about a play: Sholom Asch's GOD OF VENGEANCE, first performed in 1907 in Berlin, then widely across Europe, and eventually in 1923 in New York. There it was censored and the acting troupe was arrested and jailed. It's also about how writers work, about forbidden love, about family, about being an immigrant to the US who speaks with an accent, about Yiddish theater and changing tastes on Broadway, about McCarthyism, and, yes, about the Holocaust.

Center Theatre Group announced two more productions for the 2018 - 2019 season at the Ahmanson Theatre. Pulitzer-winning playwright Paula Vogel's deeply moving play with music, 'Indecent,' and the return of Matthew Bourne's highly evocative production of 'Cinderella' complete the 52nd season at the Ahmanson Theatre joining the previously announced 'Ain't Too Proud-The Life and Times of The Temptations,' 'Come From Away,' 'Dear Evan Hansen,' the Lincoln Center Theater production of 'Falsettos' and 'The Play That Goes Wrong.'
