BWW Reviews: Ballet Austin's THE NUTCRACKER Dances With Grace and Ease

This winter marks a momentous occasion for Ballet Austin. This year's THE NUTCRACKER is the company's 50th annual production of the beloved ballet, and from my seat last night, I can say that this Golden Anniversary production is exactly that: golden. Helmed by choreographer Stephen Mills, this NUTCRACKER is full of life, beauty, and charm. Every moment is absolutely wonderful. It's doubtful that you'll find a production better than this.

Coco and Ruby mysteriously fell out of their humdrum lives in 1940's Newark, New Jersey and into modern day Hollywood to live the dream! These two characters from the hit web series, "Coco & Ruby," written by Rachel Roderman and directed by Steve Brian, will shuffle-ball-change right out of your computer screen on October 15th to bring you a LIVE show full of old-school comedy and musicianship reminiscent of Lucille Ball and Betty Hutton. The Coco & Ruby Variety Hour will include many of your favorite WWII era standards, as well as vintage takes on contemporary pop songs.

The world premiere of the musical "Los Otros" officially opened last night, June 3 at Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum. With book and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh and music by Michael John LaChiusa, Los Otros' performances continue through July 1. Tony Award-winner Michele Pawk plays the role of Woman and Julio Monge plays the role of Man. Jim Caruso's Cast Party is the extreme open mic that has been running at Birdland in New York City every single Monday night for the past nine years. Recently, host Caruso and musical director Billy Stritch have taken the Party on the road, celebrating musical talent in Chicago, Las Vegas, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Austin, Delray Beach, and even on the high seas! Last week, the dynamic duo made a return to Los Angeles, where some highly entertaining locals sang and cavorted for a jam-packed house of friends and fans at The Coterie in the Renaissance Hotel.

Directed by Jules Aaron, performances begin on May 13, and opening night is set for Friday, May 20 at 8:00. The limited run will continue through June 18.

If you enjoy the flavor of an intelligently written literary work translated skillfully into a stage musical, like The Secret Garden or more recently The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, iGhost will simultaneously stimulate your mind and tug at your heart, especially if you're a hopeless romantic.This production now onstage @ the Lyric Theatre in Hollywood is not without flaws, but is certainly engaging with some beautifully written tunes and a mostly outstanding cast.
