As Hedgerow Theatre opens its tenth annual Ray Cooney farce this weekend, there are two things audiences can count on. First, this year's play, Two Into One, will have all the door-slamming, double entendres and giddy hilarity they've come to expect. Second, the cast will include Hedgerow veteran actors Susan Wefel and Zoran Kovcic, who've appeared in each of the theatre's Cooney farces to date.

Hedgerow Theatre invites audiences to have tea with Emily Dickinson as Penelope Reed reprises her critically acclaimed portrayal of the great American poet in a limited engagement of The Belle of Amherst. Performances are scheduled at 4 p.m. on Saturdays in June.

Mild-manned Henry Perkins accidently picks up the wrong briefcase -- one full of illicit cash -- and decides to keep it, telling his confused wife to leave everything behind and flee the country with him. Arriving at the door is a police detective who thinks Henry was soliciting in the men's room of the pub, followed by another detective who thinks Henry is dead when a corpse holding Henry's briefcase is found in the Thames. Henry's inept attempts to extricate himself from this impossible situation lead to increasingly hysterical situations.

This confluence of events and elements has resulted in the perfect summer diversion at Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre, Nashville's venerable theatrical venue, with their production of Ray Cooney's Funny Money. Directed with a certain twisted grace by the multi-faceted Nate Eppler and performed by a top-notch band of actors, Funny Money is - put simply - delightfully daft and expertly played.
