Hedgerow Theatre presents its 9th annual Ray Cooney farce, Chase Me, Comrade! July 14-Sept. 12, directed by Jared Reed. Hedgerow started the summer Cooney farce tradition in 2002 and the event has become one of Hedgerow's most popular offerings.

"We are so excited to bring back our annual Ray Cooney farce. All spring people have been asking me what's next. It's thrilling to offer this farce, written in his early years and full of the energy of youth," said Penelope Reed, Hedgerow's Producing Artistic Director. Cooney has written 38 farces and is considered the world's leading ‘farceur.' Chase Me, Comrade! played to sold-out audiences for years in London's West End .

Written in 1966, and inspired by the defection of Russian ballet legend Rudolph Nureyev in 1961, Chase Me, Comrade! weaves a hilarious tale of a Russian ballet legend's decision to defect. Unlike Nureyev's defection into the arms of French police, Cooney's fictional dancer defects to one of England's top Ministry of Defense officials. Confusion, innuendo, mix-ups and misunderstandings all add to the fun as what starts sanely quickly ramps up to hyper speed, and no one knows who is what or where.

Playing in their ninth annual Cooney are Hedgerow favorites Zoran Kovcic and Susan Wefel, joined by a cast featuring Bob Meenan, Thomas Robert Irvin, Jim Fryer, Bob Liga and current Hedgerow residents Tara Haupt, Rachel Holmes, Dave Polgar and Carl Smith.
