Ravina Festival Presents Pinchas Zukerman With Chicago Symphony Orchestra, 7/9

Pinchas Zukerman returns to Ravinia this week as both violinist and conductor beginning with a Thursday, July 8, performance featuring himself as violinist and including cellist Amanda Forsyth alongside the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by James Conlon at 8 p.m.

Bliss Replaces Ailing Fleisher in Ravinia Recital, 7/7

Renowned pianist Jonathan Biss will join violinists Miriam Fried and Ida Kavafian, violist Paul Biss and cellist Laurence Lesser in a performance of he Brahms Piano Quartet in A Major on the July 7 Barber, Brahms and Mozart recital in Ravinia Festival's Martin Theatre. Biss replaces a Leon Fleisher, who is suffering from a respiratory illness. Fleisher had been scheduled to join the strings players in the Brahms Piano Quartet in C Minor. The other repertoire, Barber's String Quartet and Mozart's String Quartet in G Minor, will remain the same. Violist Kim Kashkashian is also on the roster.

Ravinia Festival regrets that the July 6 concert by The Cat Empire, Soulive and Raul Midon has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict. There will be no concert at Ravinia on the evening of July 6.

Jorge Federico Osorio Plays Beethoven at Ravinia, 7/15

Mexico-born pianist Jorge Federico Osorio joins the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Ravinia Music Director James Conlon to perform the complete Beethoven concertos over two days beginning with an 8 p.m. concert on Thursday, July 15, featuring concertos No. 1, 2 and 3. The July 15 concert continues Ravinia's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence, with the festival teaming with its hometown city of Highland Park, which maintains a strong sister cities relationship with Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta will send a cultural delegation, including its mayor, to the festival for the July 15 concert. Chef Thierry Blouet, owner of the acclaimed Café des Artistes in Puerto Vallarta and Café des Artistes del Mar in Punta Mita, will be a guest chef in Ravinia's Park View restaurant on July 15 and 16.

Broadway and film star Patrick Cassidy will play the male lead, Frank Butler, in the Ravinia Festival production of Irving Berlin's hit-filled musical Annie Get Your Gun on August 13, 14 and 15. A scheduling conflict will prevent Brian Stokes Mitchell from appearing in the role as originally announced.

Marin Theatre Company has announced an extension of their revival of Woody Guthrie's American Song. The show now plays in Marin Theatre Company's Boyer Theatre through June 27, 2010. Conceived, adapted and directed by Peter Glazer, this musical has been pleasing audiences since its premiere in 1988. It won the Bay Area Critics Circle Award for best musical in its co-production at Berkeley Rep and San Jose Repertory Theatre in 1992.

The madcap antics of a love triangle at sea, a myriad of mistaken identities and a lively Cole Porter musical score including, 'You're the Top,' 'I Get A Kick Out Of You,' and 'It's De-Lovely,' make for a special performance of energy and entertainment. It's a wonder that all the romances are sorted out and disaster is averted aboard the magical ship where ANYTHING GOES!
