Bliss Replaces Ailing Fleisher in Ravinia Recital, 7/7

Renowned pianist Jonathan Biss will join violinists Miriam Fried and Ida Kavafian, violist Paul Biss and cellist Laurence Lesser in a performance of he Brahms Piano Quartet in A Major on the July 7 Barber, Brahms and Mozart recital in Ravinia Festival's Martin Theatre. Biss replaces a Leon Fleisher, who is suffering from a respiratory illness. Fleisher had been scheduled to join the strings players in the Brahms Piano Quartet in C Minor. The other repertoire, Barber's String Quartet and Mozart's String Quartet in G Minor, will remain the same. Violist Kim Kashkashian is also on the roster.

The son of Fried and Paul Biss, Jonathan Biss enjoys a flourishing international reputation through his orchestral, recital and chamber music performances in North America and Europe and through his award-winning recordings. He made his Ravinia debut in 1998. Noted for his prodigious technique, intriguing programs, and artistic maturity, Biss performs a diverse repertoire ranging from Mozart and Beethoven, through the Romantics to Janá?ek and Schoenberg as well as works commissioned from such contemporary composers as Leon Kirchner and Lewis Spratlan. Since he made his New York Philharmonic debut in 2001, Biss has appeared with the foremost orchestras of the United States and Europe. He is a frequent performer at leading international music festivals and gives recitals in major music capitals both here and abroad.
