Disney Begins Production on SAVING MR. BANKS in LA

Disney began production today on Saving Mr. Banks, the account of Walt Disney's twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers' popular novel, Mary Poppins, and the testy partnership the upbeat filmmaker develops with the uptight author during the project's pre-production in 1961.

Australian Made Entertaiment Brings Epic COSI to Urban Stages, Now thru Sept 23

Australian Made Entertainment has announced the New York premiere production of Louis Nowra's COSI directed by Jesse Michael Mothershed. COSI, a funny and poignant play, marks the inaugural production of Australian Made Entertainment, a theatre company dedicated to showcasing Australian plays in New York City. COSI will play a two-week limited engagement at Urban Stages (259 West 30th Street). Performances begin tonight, September 7th and continue through Sunday, September 23rd. Opening Night is Sunday, September 9th (2 p.m.). Press performances are Saturday September 8 and Sunday September 9.

Richard Ridge Moderates SAG Conversation with Judith Light Tonight, 8/17

Tonight, August 17, The Screen Actors' Guild Foundation will feature a two-hour, moderated career Conversations event with Judith Light. The event is et to take place at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway at 7:00 PM, and will be moderated by BroadwayWorld's own Richard Ridge.

2012 Tony Omissions - What Potential Nominees Were Overlooked?

Earlier this morning, stage and screen stars Kristin Chenoweth & Jim Parsons announced this year's Tony nominees from the New York Public Library. In a season as rich as this past theatrical season though, there are only so many spots for nominees and some very talented shows and performers were not nominated. Below are the eligible performers and shows who were not nominatined in the major categories.

Tony Awards Release 2012 Nominees Cheat Sheet!

Stage and screen stars Kristin Chenoweth & Jim Parsons will announce this year's Tony nominees tomorrow morning, May 1, 8:30am EST at New York Public Library. The Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards, which are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from the Beacon Theatre, on the CBS television network on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Anthony LaPaglia to Star in WilkiLeak's Founder Bio UNDERGROUND

As first reported on Deadline.com, Anthony LaPaglia and Rachel Griffiths will star in the upcoming TV movie UNDERGROUND based on the life of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The actors will join previously announced cast members Callan McAuliffe, Alex WilliamsLaura Wheelwright and Jordan Raskopoulos.

Elizabeth Marvel to Return to OTHER DESERT CITIES, 3/6

Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) has announced that Elizabeth Marvel will return to the cast of its critically acclaimed production of OTHER DESERT CITIES, a new play by Jon Robin Baitz, directed by Joe Mantello, beginning Tuesday, March 6 at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street). Ms. Marvel, who created the role of Brooke Wyeth when OTHER DESERT CITIES premiered at LCT's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater last winter, will join Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach, Judith Light and Justin Kirk in the production, replacing Rachel Griffiths who will play her final performance in the play on Sunday, March 4.

Stockard Channing Returns to OTHER DESERT CITIES Following Knee Surgery

As BroadwayWorld.com previously reported, the Tony-winning star of OTHER DESERT CITIES, Stockard Channing took leave from the production on November 18 to undergo arthoscopic knee surgery on November 21. Lauren Klein has been performing the role of 'Polly' while Channing recovers.

BroadwayWorld.com has learned that the Tony-winning star of OTHER DESERT CITIES, Stockard Channing is taking a leave from the production to undergo arthoscopic knee surgery on November 21. A production spokesperson has confirmed that her understudy, Lauren Klein, will perform the role of 'Polly' while Channing recovers. She is expected to return to the production later this week.

OTHER DESERT CITIES Announces Open-Ended Run

Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of André Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) has announced that it has extended the run indefinitely of its critically acclaimed production of OTHER DESERT CITIES, a new play by Jon Robin Baitz, directed by Joe Mantello, on Broadway at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street).
