ABC to Develop MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING Prequel for TV Comedy

Deadline reports that ABC will develop a half-hour comedy series for a sequel to the 1997 feature film MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING. Academy Award winner Ron Bass, who penned the movie, will co-write the pilot with Jessica Amento.

The project will pick up where the film left off and will follow "Julianne Potter, the character played by Julia Roberts in the movie, as she navigates her life in New York City, with best friend George, originally played by Rupert Everett, as her guide."

The 1997 romantic comedy was directed by P.J. Hogan, and starred Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz,Rupert Everett, Philip Bosco, M. Emmet Walsh, Rachel Griffiths, Carrie Preston and Susan Sullivan.

The film was a global box-office hit and one of the highest grossing films of 1997. The soundtrack song "I Say a Little Prayer (For You)" was covered by singer Diana King. The soundtrack featured a number of Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs.
