Heavy Hitters Join Talkbacks for The Platform Group's ROUGHLY SPEAKING

Shara Ashley Zeiger's Roughly Speaking, a new play with rap based on over 200 interviews with New York City's homeless, has announced the initial slate of participants for its after-show talkbacks. A line-up which includes experts on the homeless, a member of the New York State Assembly, TED Talk Presenters, artists and members of the Roughly Speaking cast and creative team. Scheduled to take place after every Wednesday and Sunday performance, the first such discussion will be held on Wednesday, November 2.

Hackney Empire today announced the full cast of its brand new pantomime for 2016, Sleeping Beauty. The West End's leading lady Alexia Khadime (Wicked, The Book of Mormon, The Lion King) will be returning to the site of her stage debut to star as Princess Tahlia (Sleeping Beauty). She will be joined by Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke who returns to Hackney Empire after her appearance in Mother Goose in 2014. They are joined by Gavin Spokes who makes his dameing debut, he joins the Hackney Empire family straight from his Olivier Award-nominated performance as Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls in the West End.

Dixon Place will present InTandem Lab's Instructions to Decode A(n In)human transformation, a postmodern punk 'roach' Kabaret inspired by Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Written in verse by Gisela Cardenas and delivered as spoken poetry by a cast of three, I2Decode explores the intertwining of live music, video mapping and words. Ryan Justesen (Playwrights Horizons/NYU) will direct the inaugural production under the artistic direction of InTandem Lab.

Following its acclaimed performances at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company returns to Queens Theatre audiences with Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a production with live music, classical and folkloric dances and a universal narrative of love and hope. Under Artistic Director, Alberto Lopez Herrera, Choreographer-in-Residence, Roberto Lara, and Music Director, George Saenz, the company is recreating the production with a new story, the premiere of choreographic works, and the premiere of folk-inspired songs and classical music interpreted with folk instrumentation. The company of 20 dancers, guest performers, and core of musicians will take audiences on a voyage from a festive town in Mexico to Mictlan, the beautiful underworld of Aztec mythology, where La Catrina is the mesmerizing Queen.
