Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will play its final performance on August 26, 2018 after a successful run at New York's Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street).

In a first look at Howard Stern's episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, premiering on May 31st, Stern recalls how President Trump's candor always made him a great guest. In the interview, they also discuss Stern's childhood, how both of their careers had an affect on their personal lives, and of course, Letterman's beard.

For three years, I have obsessed over the Original Broadway Cast Album of Lin-Manuel Miranda's ingeniously constructed, powerfully-rendered musical masterpiece HAMILTON, mostly because it just wasn't possible for me to see the show at its home at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York. Fast forward to Fall of 2017 and the show finally makes its long stop in Los Angeles. I snagged a ticket and it was transcendent. Fast forward again to now May 2018, and the show's second national tour has finally arrived in my back yard at OC's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa for a three-week run through May 27. This production not only successfully reignited my love for this show, but it has also promptly solidified it as, in my humble opinion, one of the best musicals of all time. Apart from being one of the most undeniably creative stage shows ever produced for the American theater, HAMILTON is also one of the most deeply moving and shrewdly intelligent stage musicals I have ever experienced---made even better thanks to an insanely talented ensemble cast that raps, sings, and acts their way into this gripping, very American story. All that hype? Completely justified.

On Friday, May 11, PBS will present an encore broadcast of their enormously successful Great Performances special Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin' to Do, a career retrospective of the legendary theatrical icon. The program features interviews, archival performance footage and songs from Rivera's concert repertoire including such numbers as "A Boy Like That," "America," "A Lot of Livin' to Do," "All That Jazz," and "Nowadays."  The encore broadcast will air in the New York area on THIRTEEN/WNET Friday, May 11 at 10:00 PM ET. On Monday, May 7th The League of Professional Theatre Women (Kelli Lynn Harrison & Lisa Rothe, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been leading the gender parity conversation and championing women in the professional theatre for over 35 years, presented the final Oral History event of their 2017-18 season with two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street). Ms. Rivera talked about her life and illustrious career with Broadway World's lead correspondent, Richard Ridge, host of Backstage with Richard Ridge. 

The multitalented Audra McDonald, winner of a record six Tony Awards, will return to Los Angeles in concert with the LA Opera Orchestra. The concert will take place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles CA 90012) on Sunday, May 20, at 3pm.

For our first fabulous Tony memory, we turn to the incomparable Chita Rivera, who is being honored this year for a lifetime of achievement in the theatre.

The legendary Broadway icon has just added another honor to her vast array. On Friday, May 4, Chita Rivera was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts Degree by the University of Florida, Gainesville, before thousands of graduating students and their families at the Class of 2018 Spring commencement. Rivera also presented a master class workshop to UF School of Theatre + Dance students and faculty following the graduation ceremony.

Pasadena Playhouse, the State Theater of California is presenting Culture Clash, revisiting their hit Bordertown twenty years later, with Bordertown Now from Wednesday May 30 to Sunday June 24 at Pasadena Playhouse.
