BroadwayWorld has just learned that six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, who will star next spring in Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, will take a break from the show next summer. An official show rep commented: 'Due to a pre-existing commitment, Audra McDonald will not appear in Shuffle Along from Tuesday, June 21 to Sunday, September 25, 2016.  Miss McDonald will return to Shuffle Along beginning Tuesday, September 27 and is currently contracted to stay with the production through  Sunday, June 11, 2017.'

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Saturday, September 12 for SHUFFLE ALONG Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, the striking new production that presents both the landmark 1921 musical itself, and additionally details the events that catalyzed the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this ground-breaking work. 

On the Twentieth Century, our final musical revival of the 2014-2015 season, closed on Sunday, July 19 at the American Airlines Theatre. The critically acclaimed production played a total of 144 performances from its first preview on February 12.  Starring Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher, On the Twentieth Century came in with a roar and was greeted with rave reviews from publications such as The New York Times, Variety, and Daily News. Audiences thoroughly enjoyed this 'screwball comedy' that was 'performed with manic energy by a super cast toplined by charismatic stars' (Variety).

Roundabout Theatre Company's Tony-nominated revival of On the Twentieth Century, which opened to widespread critical acclaim on Broadway, is now extended by two weeks through July 19, 2015 only, and the new Broadway Cast Recording is out today, May 19, via PS Classics.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, PS Classics recorded the cast album of the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of On the Twentieth Century on Monday, March 23, 2015. This new Broadway Cast Recording will be released on May 19, 2015.  The album is currently available for pre-order at the PS Classics website, psclassics.com, and on Amazon.com. The Actors Fund's annual gala last night, May 11, 2015 honored Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman and three-term mayor of New York City, entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Bloomberg and Freeman received The Fund's Medal of Honor, the highest award given by the 133-year old non-profit human services organization serving everyone in performing arts and entertainment. BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Roundabout Theatre Company is canceling its June 7th matinee of On the Twentieth Century to accommodate star Kristin Chenoweth's co-hosting gig with Alan Cumming for the 2015 TONY AWARDS and the cast's performance that evening. Chenoweth will also be absent from the 8 p.m. show on June 6th.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY star Kristin Chenoweth will be out again for Sunday's matinee. The star missed performances on Friday and on Saturday due to illness. Chenoweth's understudy is Mamie Parris. No word yet on when she'll be back in the show- stay tuned!

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced that PS Classics will record the cast album of the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY on Monday, March 23, 2015. This new Broadway Cast Recording will be released on May 19, 2015. The production is currently playing at the American Airlines Theatre through July 5, 2015.
