Astoria PAC Presents Talk-Backs with Galt MacDermot, Tom Wojtunik

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) is pleased to present two talk-backs in conjunction with their production of Galt MacDermot's (HAIR) musical, The Human Comedy. The first, 'Making The Human Comedy Sing' will feature Mr. MacDermot, the later 'Life on the Homefront: The World of The Human Comedy' will include Salvatore Gagliardo a 96 years-young WWII veteran and Astoria Resident.

The 2010 Tony winning Best Musical MEMPHIS welcomed legendary radio personality and author, 'Cousin Brucie' Morrow to the Shubert theatre for a special one week only cameo appearance last night, May 3, 2011. He will play in the show through Sunday May 8, 2011. This event coincides with the release of Cousin Brucie's paperback edition, Rock & Roll...And the Beat Goes On; which is a tribute to the great musicians of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Autographed copies of the book are available at the theatre during his show appearances.

Victoria Clark Leads HARVEST Film Talkback, May 9

Feature film Harvest, written and directed by Marc Meyers and starring Broadway's Victoria Clark will be released in New York City at the Quad Cinema starting on Friday, May 6.

NCTF Chairman's Awards Gala Honors Joel Grey, Charles Dillingham, 5/2

National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) will hold its Annual Chairman's Awards Gala and benefit on Monday, May 2 at the St. Regis New York hotel (2 East 55th Street at Fifth Avenue). This year, NCTF Chairman James S Turley, Chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young, will honor Oscar and Tony Award-winner Joel Grey (on Broadway this season in Anything Goes and director of Broadway's The Normal Heart), Charles Dillingham (Managing Director, Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles) and BNY Mellon. Accepting the award on behalf of Corporate Honoree will be Gerald Hassell, President. All net proceeds of the event will be distributed as the NCTF/BNY MELLON FUND FOR NEW AMERICAN THEATRE.

Bryan Cranston Joins ROCK OF AGES FIlm

'Breaking Bad's' Bryan Cranston is set to play the mayor in the upcoming 'Rock of Ages' film, to be directed by Shankman and based on the Broadway musical, according to Deadline.com. Cranston will play the husband of an advocate who wants to ban rock and roll. That role will be played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and both were created specifically for the movie.

Patina Miller in Contention for Aretha Franklin Biopic?

This morning, the legendary Aretha Franklin appeared on The View to promote her new album, A Woman Falling Out of Love, discuss her dramatic weight loss as a result of surgery and the new biopic of her life, now in the works, among other topics. While reporting on the status of the film based on her life, the songbird revealed that in addition to picks such as Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson, SISTER ACT's Patina Miller is now being considered to channel her.

The 25th Annual EASTER BONNET COMPETITION raised $3,706,085, the result of six weeks of intensive fundraising for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS by 52 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies. The grand total was announced at this year's EASTER BONNET COMPETITION, which ended in two shows featuring original presentations, songs and elaborate, custom-made bonnets from 17 of the participating shows. Leon, Kreidler Set for 2011 August Wilson Competition for Kids, 5/9

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company have announced the 3rd Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition, featuring high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, and Seattle performing monologues by the legendary American playwright, to take place on Monday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The event is free and open to the public!

Last week The Creative Coalition and friends celebrated Broadway's romantic comedy Born Yesterday with an exclusive reception at the iconic 'Tobacconist to the World,' Nat Sherman. Photo Coverage: 'Mixtape Confessions' at Don't Tell Mama

Don't Tell Mama was host last Sunday to the premiere of Mixtape Confessions: Diary of a Teenage Optimist. A new autobiographical show starring Nicole Johndrow, Mixtape Confessions features surprising new arrangements of classic pop hits from 1988 to 1991, structured around Johndrow's audiotape diary from her junior high school days. At the piano was musical director and arranger Warren Freeman, who dueted with Johndrow on several showstoppers, including songs made famous by Whitney Houston, Gloria Estefan, Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. Also on hand were Anna Ty Bergman and Dani Marcus for some tight girl-group harmonies and the emotionally charged finale, Wilson Phillips' 'Hold On.' Throughout the fast-paced show, Johndrow shares candid moments as the recorded voice of 13-year-old Nicole from the tape diary recounts the joys and embarrassments of the Eighth Grade: the first kiss, the first crush and the first heartbreak.

Lily Tomlin Brings an Evening of Classic Comedy to Kingsbury Hall 4/16

Lily Tomlin, one of America's foremost comediennes, is bringing her beloved characters, including six-year-old Edith Ann, telephone operator Ernestine and many others, to Salt Lake City in an all-new show, performing at Kingsbury Hall on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The Boston Theater Critics Association has announced its nominees for this year's Elliot Norton Awards, which recognize excellence in Greater Boston theater. BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO is a new American play by Rajiv Joseph Starring Robin Williams in his Broadway acting debut and directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Moisés Kaufman. The production opened March 31, at the Richard Rogers Theatre and was paid a special visit by Cherry Jones last night, April 12.
