According to an article in the New York Post, French playwright Jean-Etienne de Becdelievre has accused the producers of the upcoming Anastasia musical of plagiarizing material from his 1952 play titled 'Anastasia.' 

It's true that there are countless musicals from yesteryear that are, and always will be, timeless classics. On the other hand, there is also a constant flow of new material being created, which runs the gamut in terms of quality and success. Many of these new works do not succeed the way that the age-old classics do. Others, though, become almost instant classics in their own right as they find critical and popular acclaim. A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder is that kind of show and the current touring production at Providence Performing Arts Center demonstrates just how fantastic this very young musical really is.

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder announced today that the First National Tour has recouped its entire capitalization. Making the news even more momentous, the tour reached this milestone during its current weeklong engagement in Hartford, CT - the city where Gentleman's Guide had its world premiere in 2012. A musical about a serial killer could never be more funny. This show won four Tonys at the 68th Tony Awards in June 2014, including Best Musical. It is based on the 1907 novel Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal by Roy Horniman and its screen adaptation, the 1949 British film Kind Hearts and Coronets. Characters in the play are penned after real-life English aristocrats, primarily a frivolous British Prime Minister.

Just announced, Mary Beth Peil will star in the role of Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna in the new Broadway musical Anastasia, opening on Broadway on April 24, 2017 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). Peil originated the role in the world premiere production at Hartford Stage.
