Nominations Announced For The 17th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards

At a ceremony held today at London's Cafe de Paris, host Steve Furst announced the nominees for the 17th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards, the only major theatre prize-giving decided entirely by the theatregoers themselves.

During the recent Ghostbusters furore, enraged opponents claimed the movie would ruin their childhood. As someone who grew up with the Harry Potter book series - preparing for GCSEs while the characters stressed over O.W.L.s - I can happily declare that this affectionate, spellbinding work only enhances that treasured experience. It's both nostalgic and thrillingly new, a smartly crafted love letter to J.K. Rowling's invention and to theatre itself.

HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD is currently in previews in the West End, with the Official Opening performances of Part One and Part Two set for Saturday 30 July 2016. Set designer Christine Jones is featured in a new behind-the-scenes video, which showcases the craftsmanship at the heart of the production, including Hogwarts' famous moving staircase. Previews for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child just began last night, with opening performances of Part One and Part Two set take place on Saturday July 30, but that hasn't stopped London reviewers from writing about the show.

After months of anticipation, the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child finally begins previews at the Palace Theatre in the West End this week. The new play is a collaboration between Potter creator J.K. Rowling, playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany, and stars Jamie Parker as Harry Potter, Poppy Miller as Ginny Potter, Sam Clemmett as Albus Potter, Paul Thornley as Ron Weasley, Noma Dumezweni as Hermione Granger, Cherrelle Skeete as Rose Granger-Weasley, Alex Price as Draco Malfoy, Anthony Boyle as Scorpius Malfoy.
