Last night, February 18, Harvey Weinstein hosted a star-studded performance of Eugene O'Neill's HUGHIE -- starring Academy Award winner, Golden Globe Award winner & BAFTA winner Forest Whitaker and Tony Award winner Frank Wood at Broadway's Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street) -- followed by and intimate reception in celebration of director Michael Grandage and Whitaker, who is making his Broadway debut. Olivier Winner Zrinka Cvitesic to Perform in NYC Next Month

Paradise Glen Productions announced today they will present A Balkan American Musical Celebration at the East Village music venue DROM on Monday, February 22 from 6-9pm. A dynamic fusion of Balkan and American jazz & blues, mixed with traditional Sevdah-style Bosniak singing, this one-night only musical event features performances by Olivier Award-winning Croatian actress Zrinka Cvitesic, acclaimed jazz vocalist Sasha Dobson, noted jazz pianist & composer Frank Owens and gypsy punk rockers Bad Buka, and emceed by actor Tony Naumovski.

Brian Wilson to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of PET SOUNDS at the Fox Theatre, 9/30

Music legend Brian Wilson has announced a 2016 world tour to celebrate and perform the iconic album Pet Sounds for a final time, in honor of its 50th anniversary. Originally released on May 16, 1966, Pet Sounds is universally hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. With more than 70 dates being confirmed, and several previously announced dates selling out in record time, Wilson and his band will be joined by former bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin when they kick off the tour this Spring and perform at the Fox Theatre Friday, September 30 at 8 p.m. Fans can expect a live performance of Pet Sounds in its entirety, as well as top hits and fan favorites spanning his 54-year career with The Beach Boys and as a solo artist.

Sundance Sets 2016 Lineup of U.S., World Competition Films

Offering a first look at the year ahead in independent film, culture and new ideas, Sundance Institute announced today the 65 films selected for the U.S. Competition, World Competition and out-of-competition NEXT category set to premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, January 21-31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Films that have premiered in these sections include Beasts of the Southern Wild, Fruitvale Station,Whiplash, Blackfish, The September Issue, The Cove, An Education, Animal Kingdom, Precious, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Obvious Child, Tangerine and Escape from Tomorrow.

CAROL, BEASTS OF NO NATION & More Nominated for 31st Film Independent Spirit Awards

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Film Independent Spirit Awards, the LA Film Festival and Film Independent at LACMA, announced nominations for the 2016 Spirit Awards this morning. Film Independent President Josh Welsh presided over the press conference held at W Hollywood, with actors John Boyega and Elizabeth Olsen presenting the nominations. Nominees for Best Feature included Anomalisa, Beasts of No Nation, Carol, Spotlight and Tangerine.

Glenn Close, Julie Taymor & More to Present at IFP Gotham Awards

The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the nation's premier member organization of independent storytellers, announced today the presenters for the 25th Anniversary IFP Gotham Awards. The ten competitive awards to be presented include Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Actor, Best Actress (presenting sponsor euphoria Calvin Klein), Best Screenplay, Breakthrough Actor, the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award, the Gotham Audience Award, Breakthrough Series - Long Form, and Breakthrough Series - Short Form. In addition to the competitive awards, Gotham Award Tributes will be given to actors Helen Mirren and Robert Redford, director Todd Haynes, and producer Steve Golin. As the first major awards ceremony of the film season, the Gotham Awards provide critical early recognition and media attention to worthy independent films.

American Film Institute Announces 2015 AFI European Union Film Showcase Lineup

The American Film Institute (AFI) announces today the complete slate of films for the 2015 edition of its AFI European Union Film Showcase, taking place December 120 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. This year's AFI European Union Film Showcase is generously supported by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States as the presenting partner through the EU's Getting to Know Europe grant. Now in its 28th year, the AFI European Union Film Showcase highlights the year's best European filmmaking, featuring a selection of more than 50 films representing all 28 European Union member states, including international film festival award winners, regional box office hits, debut works by promising new talents and many countries' official submissions for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award .
