Central Works 2018 Season to Include 3 Comedies & A Classic; Beginning This February

CENTRAL WORKS 2018 SEASON features 4 plays, all world premieres, beginning February 17 and running through November 2018. This is a season where boundaries, national and otherwise, are no barrier to laughter and genuine engagement with three comedies, two literary adaptations, and one classic. The 2017 Season celebrated Central Works constant commitment to brand new works inspired by urgent social issues, classic texts, and history every production received a TBA Awards Recommendation, and each played to full houses every weekend!

Off Broadway West Theatre Company ('OBWTC') proudly announces the Opening Night of their world premiere production Patricia Milton's new play, Without Mercy, opening February 24 and closing March 25.  This play is not to be missed as it concerns the controversial and sensitive subject of capital punishment.

Joanna is devastated to learn her daughter, Mercy, who disappeared six years before, was murdered. Returning home from alcohol rehab, Joanna finds her surviving daughter, Bethany, bent on a personal agenda: Bethany has hired a legal advocate and insists on supporting a plea bargain for Mercy's killer.

Central Works Announce 2017 Season

Central Works 2017 Season (CW '17) reflects the growth and compensation of more than a quarter century of new play creation. Central Works 25th anniversary season launched with Patricia Milton's Enemies: Foreign and Domestic, winner of the TBA award for "Outstanding World Premiere Play," and concluded with the SRO premiere of  Lauren Gunderson's new play Ada and the Memory Engine. The 2016 season followed with 3 productions extended after sold out performances and included CW's first NNPN Rolling World Premiere Into the Beautiful North by Karen Zacarias.  Overall box office has grown by 23% over the last two seasons.

Central Works to Present World Premiere of Patricia Milton's HEARTS OF PALM in July

Central Works (CW) presents the world premiere of Patricia Milton's latest political comedy Hearts of Palm, opening with a press night July 16th (previews July 14th &15th), and running through August 14 at the historic Berkeley City Club. Unrequited Love meets Unregulated Capitalism in Milton's very funny new play Hearts of Palm, developed in the Central Works Writers Workshop.  A multi-award winning playwright, Patricia Milton's hit Enemies: Foreign and Domestic, wan produced by Central Works in 2015 and awarded  "Outstanding World Premiere" by Theatre Bay Area (TBA) when judged against all Bay Area theater companies.

Playwrights Foundation to Host 'FlashPlays,' 12/6-7

Playwrights Foundation delivers lightning in a bottle with FlashPlays a lively new format of 30 second to 2 minute plays on December 6 & 7, 2015. Over 40 playwrights will create roughly 80 short plays to drive this whirlwind event at the historic Brava Theater in San Francisco. Central Works launches their 25th season with Patricia Milton's hilarious comedy Enemies: Foreign and Domestic, opening with a press night Feb 21 (previews Feb 19, 20), running through March 29 at the historic Berkeley City Club. A family drama with a sharp political edge, Enemies: Foreign and Domestic by Patricia Milton begins when the rebel among three odd sisters returns home to reconcile with her estranged mother, cultures clash, sibling rivalries erupt, and bombs start falling. Following on the success of her hilarious economic comedy, Reduction in Force, 'a timely, witty farce' (SF Examiner) that played to packed houses in 2011, local playwright Patricia Milton returns to Central Works with this darkly comic intersection of foreign 'black ops' and family politics...'because counter-terrorism begins at home.' Patricia Milton's plays have been performed in New York, Boston, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and places in between.
