Central Works "cheeky" thriller The Victorian Ladies' Detective Collective by award-winning playwright Patricia Milton has been extended through June 9 (originally scheduled to close June 2). Directed by Gary Graves, this show is the fifth writer/director comic collaboration between Central Works' resident playwright and its company co-director. Last season, Central Works' production of Bamboozled by Patricia Milton won 4 TBA awards, including both awards in the Outstanding Performer slots for Stacy Ross & Chelsea Bearce (also playing in this production), along with Entire Ensemble and Outstanding Production.

The production, directed by Gary Graves, is the fifth writer/director comic collaboration between Central Works' resident playwright and its company co-director. In Victorian London it seems Jack the Ripper may be at it again where sisters Loveday and Valeria run a boarding house for Single Ladies. When a series of gruesome murders terrorizes the neighborhood, they appeal to the police for protection. But Scotland Yard is no help at all. The bodies are piling up on their doorstep! So the women join with an American ex-pat to bring the killer to justice on their own. Last season's CW production of Bamboozled by Patricia Milton won both TBA awards in the Outstanding Performer slots for Stacy Ross & Chelsea Bearce (now in this production), along with Entire Ensemble and Outstanding Production.

In Wonderland something sinister is going on in the White House. Joseph Kaye is dumbfounded. Without having done anything to deserve it, he's been arrested and transported to a place that looks a lot like the White House. He doesn't know why. Someone must have recommended him. But he's just a bank teller at National Savings and Trust. Why him? No one will tell him anything. So he waits anxiously in an empty room off … the West Wing? There's a woman named Alice. And someone called “The Rabbit.” There's a “Mad Hatter” and a “Red Queen,” too. Is something ghastly going on in the White House? Joseph just wants to do his civic duty. But what exactly is that when you're down the rabbit hole, and through the looking glass? Directed by Jan Zvaifler Wonderland features a cast that includes Martha Brigham*, John Patrick Moore*, Kimberly Ridgeway and Clive Worsley (*member AEA). The production has costume design by Tammy Berlin, lighting design by Gary Graves, prop design by Debbie Shelley and sound design Gregory Scharpen, with stage management by Carolina Stevens.

The 2018 Season was celebrated and nominated for the comedy and SRO runs of Patricia Milton's Bamboozled and Cristina Garcia's King of Cuba which featured Marga Gomez as El Comandante. Milton's Bamboozled was a finalist for 6 TBA Awards, including Outstanding World Premiere, Entire Production, and Outstanding Direction - it won for Entire Production, Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Performance for its 2 principal actors, Stacy Ross and Chelsea Bearce. Central Works is committed to new works inspired by social issues, classic texts, and history - every production received a TBA Awards Recommendation, and each played to responsive houses every weekend!

Bamboozled was developed by Ms. Milton in the Central Works Writers Workshop, and is inspired by true events. In Central Works 58th world premiere, Abby is a young appraiser touring with the show "Antiques Roadtrip." She's a black woman from L.A. traveling in the south-Shelby County, Tennessee. When she's accused of defrauding a Daughter of the Confederacy out of a fortune in Civil War heirlooms, Abby finds herself on the hook for a million dollars. Her legal team is flailing and her accuser is formidable. Should she cop a plea? Or take a long shot for justice?
