EDINBURGH 2015 - BWW Reviews: TONY'S LAST TAPE, Pleasance Courtyard, August 22 2015

Tony's Last Tape, by Andy Barrett, takes style and situation from Krapp's Last Tape, and reinvents it by replacing its protagonist with the late great left-wing legend Tony Benn.  One might be justified in imagining that the Edinburgh Fringe is the only place you could expect to see a show melding Samuel Beckett to the life of a veteran (what they call socialists when they're old and dead according to the central character) Labour MP, but the Nottingham Playhouse production has already had successful runs in both Nottingham and London before arriving in Edinburgh this August.

BWW Reviews: TUNA DOES VEGAS at Gaslight Dinner Theatre

Here's some unsolicited career advice for those of you who might be considering relocating to Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas:  Tunanians - or Tunaites or however they refer to themselves - are sorely in need of a good beauty operator to help them keep their unruly wigs in shipshape, Bristol fashion. What with all the civic events, out-of-town trips and local affairs, every woman in Tuna should want their coiffures to be dazzling creations of the beauticians' trade.

BWW Reviews: MULLINGAR OF OUR MINDS

So saying, the plot of John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar shows just disheartening it is when four characters are discovered to have been strangers for so long due to those undisclosed feelings that have eaten away at their souls for so long; when the time for changes arises, the obstacles which arise and the way in which each character reacts makes this such an epic story. How disheartening it is for four people to have lived over the last few years with the "what is" as the unchanging doctrine of their reality, living in anticipation of something that may or may not come and meandering in this life until fate sticks her ugly hand in to change the bleak, unmoving world that such characters inhabit. Yet, how beautiful it is to see four wildly talented actors bring such inner turmoil to a head in Cape Rep's current production of Shanley's epic play.

BWW Recap: 'Tom Connolly' Awakens Memories on THE BLACKLIST Season Finale

Oh NBC, you devils. You tease us with promos for a season two finale entitled 'Masha Rostova,' which we've come to understand is Elizabeth Keen's birth name. Yet we open to find the title card 'Tom Connolly, No. 11.' We'll discover during the evening that not one, but both, titles just may be correct. The Attorney General of the United States is a fiend, but Liz, what are you doing with that gun?
