Bernadette Peters will celebrate the launch of her highly anticipated third children's book, STELLA AND CHARLIE: FRIENDS FOREVER, with a reading and signing today, June 23rd at 11 a.m. at Barnes & Noble, 150 East 86th Street at Lexington Ave., New York, NY.

This delightful tail tells the story of friendship inspired by Peters' work with shelter animals and her personal experience with animal adoption. 'STELLA AND CHARLIE' is sure to please young readers, dog lovers, and anyone who has gone through the trials and tribulations of true friendship.

Peters will be releasing the book on August 4, 2015. To pre-order, click here!

Her first two books are the much-lauded BROADWAY BARKS and STELLA IS A STAR.

All of Peters' proceeds from the sale of 'STELLA AND CHARLIE' benefit Broadway Barks, who works to rescue animals in shelters and raise awareness about the beauty of adoption.

The official description for her third installment reads:

"Stella is back barking on Broadway! Author and acclaimed actress/performer Bernadette Peters offers a charming tale of how two former shelter dogs, after a few ruff-patches, became devoted friends.

"In this companion title to Peters' New York Times bestsellers Broadway Barks and Stella Is a Star, the beloved canine heroine Stella finds herself alone. Her "mom" (who looks a lot like Bernadette Peters) goes on a journey to bring a shelter dog named Charlie to live with them. After a car ride with stops in Oklahoma and St. Louis, Charlie arrives in what Stella thinks of as her territory!

"At first, Stella is jealous of all the attention Charlie gets. But when she's hurt and needs a friend, Charlie shows her that he can be just that. In the end, Stella dances and Charlie yodels while Mom plays piano and sings.

"Young readers with new siblings, or new pets, will connect emotionally to this pet pair. Kids will understand Stella's frustrations and will root for Charlie, too!"

Author Bernadette Peters' dazzling career includes starring roles on Broadway and in theaters and concert halls around the world. Her signature roles include the witch in Into the Woods, Mama Rose in Gypsy, and Sally in Stephen Sondheim's Follies. She is also the passionate cofounder, along with Mary Tyler Moore, of Broadway Barks, a charity that finds homes for shelter animals. This organization and her own beloved former shelter dogs are the twin inspirations for this book.

Illustrator Liz Murphy was born in England and is a graduate of the Kingston Art College, where she majored in graphic design. She has fulfilled both her childhood ambitions of "becoming a mom" and "being able to draw and paint to my heart's content." Among her slate of well-received children's books are Bernadette Peters' Broadway Barks and Stella Is a Star.
