Virginia's Signature Theatre has announced the full cast for the world premiere production of Kid Victory, a new musical from legendary composer John Kander (Chicago, Cabaret) and acclaimed playwright Greg Pierce (Slowgirl).

With the opening night of the world premiere musical Kid Victory fast approaching at Signature Theatre, the company has unveiled a first behind the scenes look with creators John Kander (Cabaret, Chicago), Greg Pierce (Slowgirl) and Liesl Tommy. Check it out below!

'Finding My Voice' 'I still can't hear you' echoed in my head as I left rehearsal the other day. 'I still can't hear you.' Among the notes from Liesl after our first stumble-through were the repeated reminders about my volume and size. 'You're not in an independent film,' she said. Despite doing my homework, tightening my objectives, and warming up my voice: three weeks in and they still can't hear me.

There was a moment today, during our musical rehearsal, when John Kander stood from his seat behind the writers' table. With his first step, the room fell silent. Each subsequent step brought actors further and further towards the edge of their seats as hands of stage managers' discretely turned their phones to camera mode. When he sat down, behind the old, upright rehearsal piano, the focus in the room was unparalleled. His fingers stroked the keys and a brand new version of the verse in question flowed through the chamber of the piano and into the room. No one breathed. Unsure of whether to clap, nod, or cry, we all sat motionless. Jeff Denman, who was sitting next to me, raised his hands in the air and pronounced "John Kander, everybody," and the silence broke in stunned laughter, headshakes, and stifled amen's. It was at that point, sitting around the piano with some of the most talented artists that I've ever had the privilege of meeting, it hit me how surreal this experience was.

Virginia's Signature Theatre has announced the full cast for the world premiere production of Kid Victory, a new musical from legendary composer John Kander (Chicago, Cabaret) and acclaimed playwright Greg Pierce (Slowgirl).

On October 20, 2014, Florence Lacey (Broadway's Follies, Evita and Signature's Sunset Boulevard), Megan Lawrence (Broadway's Hair and Signature's Cabaret), Jacquelyn Piro Donovan (Broadway's Les Miserables and Signature's The Witches of Eastwick), Natascia Diaz (Broadway's Man of La Mancha and Signature's The Threepenny Opera) and Nick Blaemire (Broadway's Godspell and Signature's Glory Days) performed alongside 75 Signature Theatre artists and an 18-piece orchestra as Virginia's Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre celebrated its 25th Anniversary. With performances from 27 shows over the last 25 years, including Sweeney Todd, The Rhythm Club, Urinetown, The Boy Detective Fails, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Dreamgirls, Chess, and many more. On Monday, April 21, 2014 at 7 p.m., stage and screen stars Chuck Cooper, Charlotte d'Amboise, Kate Flannery, Judy Kuhn, Terrence Mann, John Tartaglia and many more will join together at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre for a one-night-only benefit concert production of the new musical THE LIGHTNING THIEF.
