The Shaw Festival proudly presents the world premiere of Sarena Parmar's The Orchard (After Chekhov) - a moving, modern Canadian reworking of Anton Chekhov's kaleidoscopic play The Cherry Orchard. Ravi Jain directs this fresh adaptation about a Punjabi-Sikh family fighting to save their orchard from foreclosure in early 1970's Canada. The Orchard (After Chekhov) begins previews June 7 at the Jackie Maxwell Studio Theatre. ?

In our 36th season we continue to produce work that confronts some of the most relevant issues of our times. From shattering the culture of shame in gender-based violence (Nirbhaya), to exposing the pitfalls of Canada's refugee system (Refuge), from unearthing the buried history of slaves in Salem (Obeah Opera), to the clash of idealism and bureaucracy (The Public Servant), the issues raised in these plays will ignite a compelling dialogue with our audience.

On Monday April 8th, Artistic Director Andy McKim announced Theatre Passe Muraille's 2013/14 season at the company's annual fundraising gala event. The season presents a balanced approach of fresh new voices (Rob Kempson, Rosamund Small, Mitchell Cushman) and established theatrical powerhouses (Louise Pitre, George F. Walker, Linda Griffiths). At a press conference held June 7 at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 171 nominations for 197 eligible productions that opened between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011 for the 32nd annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards which honour excellence in the performing arts in Toronto.
