VIDEO: Watch the Trailer for Oscar Wilde-Themed THE HAPPY PRINCE
by Macon Prickett
- Jul 27, 2018
In a cheap Parisian hotel room Oscar Wilde lies on his death bed and the past floods back, transporting him to other times and places. Was he once the most famous man in London? The artist crucified by a society that once worshiped him? The lover imprisoned and freed, yet still running towards ruin in the final chapter of his life? Under the microscope of death he reviews the failed attempt to reconcile with his long suffering wife Constance, the ensuing reprisal of his fatal love affair with Lord Alfred Douglas and the warmth and devotion of Robbie Ross who tried and failed to save him from himself. From Dieppe to Naples to Paris freedom is elusive and Oscar is a penniless vagabond, always moving on, shunned by his old acquaintances, but revered by a strange group of outlaws and urchins to whom he tells the old stories - his incomparable wit still sharp. THE HAPPY PRINCE is a portrait of the dark side of a genius who lived and died for love in the last days of the nineteenth century.
Promethean Theatre Ensemble Announces 2018-19 Season
by A.A. Cristi
- Jul 25, 2018
Was Dr. Martin Luther King correct in saying the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice? Even if we do learn from the past, are we still doomed to repeat some of it? Promethean Theatre Ensemble Artistic Director Brian Pastor says, "Friedrich Nietzsche once noted that 'when we are tired, we are attacked by ideas we conquered long ago.' As Promethean begins its 13th season, we are reminded of one of our founding tenets: that we tell stories of the past to illuminate our present. The themes that we explore this season challenge us to craft a better tomorrow by taking our cues from the boldest voices of yesteryear."

BWW Review: THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST is Wilde and Wonderful at The Grandel
by Tanya Seale
- Jul 17, 2018
Insight Theatre is an equity theatre in its 11th season, and Artistic Director Maggie Ryan says she has wanted to produce The Importance of Being Earnest for years. 'I delight in the language of this play,' she says of the classic farce. It's a 'trivial comedy for serious people,' which showcases playwright Oscar Wilde's intellectual genius. This is quite simply a brilliant play for smart audiences that stands the test of time. It overflows with hilarious double entendre and euphemisms aplenty, and if you've never indulged yourself in seeing it, make plans now to do so, as we can all delight in this spectacular performance, directed by Ed Reggi.
