The Xoregos Performing Company is presenting a new play at Theater for the New City by Arnold Schulman, a playwright and screenwriter who has been nominated for two Academy Awards and written for Broadway.

The Grammy Awards, airing this Sunday, February 10th, at 8pm, have recognized five exceptional musical theatre cast albums as worthy of inclusion in their annual celebration of the year's best music. They range from original Broadway cast recordings to revival cast recordings to live concert recordings--and they all feature impressive vocal work from some of the theatre world's biggest and brightest stars. On last night's episode of 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' the cast of Tony Award-winning Broadway musical 'The Band's Visit' performed a scaled-down version of 'Omar Sharif' with Katrina Lenk.

The 10-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical The Band's Visit will play its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, April 7, 2019. Upon closing, the production will have played 589 regular and 36 preview performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (243 W 47th Street).

David Berglas, internationally renowned magician and longtime supporter of the College of Magic, Cape Town's only magical arts organisation, has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year Honours List for services to Magic and Psychology. Bet Hatikvah, the small town that is the setting for The Band's Visit, is utterly unremarkable. But unremarkable is the last adjective one would use to describe the score for this new musical, about an Egyptian police orchestra who, thanks to a linguistic mix-up, find themselves stranded overnight in a tiny Israeli town. Written by Tony nominee David Yazbek, the music ranges from haunting and ethereal to rousing and comedic, weaving together the structures and storytelling needs of musical theatre with melodies and orchestrations that are undeniably, authentically Middle Eastern. The end result is a score that takes a moment to absorb fully, but once it does, it's hard to stop thinking about.

Last night, The Trevor Project hosted its 2017 TrevorLIVE Los Angeles gala at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., where it honored fashion designer, award-winning screenwriter, producer, and film director Tom Ford with the Hero Award, and Tony Award winning actress, singer and author Kristin Chenoweth with the Icon Award. The evening kicked off with special opening remarks from Lisa Kudrow and Kristin Davis, and featured performances by Grammy-nominated band Garbage, Broadway legend Shoshana Bean, and Neon Trees.
