La Jolla Playhouse is the recipient of three prestigious and highly-competitive grants to support its world-premiere production of The Who & The What, by 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar, directed by Kimberly Senior, running February 11 - March 9 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. The grants include the Edgerton Foundation New American Plays Award, as well awards from The Laurents/Hatcher Foundation and The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation Theatre Visions Fund.

Bravo to Les Waters, the play's director and Actors Theatre's artistic head, who plunges in and finds the play's true essence, making it a moving, lingering, even haunting experience.

This fall the Frist Center for the Visual Arts will offer a variety of exciting public programming in conjunction with the exhibition 30 Americans. Highlights include Artist's Perspective lectures by Hank Willis Thomas and Nina Chanel Abney, two of the artists featured in 30 Americans. Also, in partnership with Vanderbilt University's Office of Community, Neighborhood, and Government Relations, the Frist Center will host a special three-part lunch and lecture series presented by Vanderbilt professors and guest panelists. Titled 'Food for Thought: Visualizing America through Art by African American Artists and Norman Rockwell,' the series will explore issues such as the U.S. civil rights movement and how historical events have shaped visual as well as social culture.

Andrea Rosen Gallery is delighted to present Michael St. John's third Gallery 2 exhibition. Titled Country Life, the exhibition unites St. John's consistent interest in the representation of common, everyday experience with a diligent, but often playful, formal practice. It opens just before the release of St. John's first major monograph, published by Karma.

Vermont, there, I said it and now the thought of art has left your mind. I drove 243 miles to get away from New York and MOMA to see the mountains, the lakes and yes all that maple syrup. Oddly enough, the first signs you see that don't advertise corn, heirloom tomatoes and artisanal goat cheese are for artist studios and craft spots.
