After receiving a record-breaking 600 applications in a single season, General Director Plácido Domingo has selected ten new participants who will enter LA Opera's Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program in the 2014/15 season. Approximately 250 of the original applicants were selected to sing live semi-final auditions in Los Angeles and New York before a panel of LA Opera's music staff and artistic administration. From those auditions, 21 singers were invited to sing a final audition for Mr. Domingo, who made the ultimate selection of the incoming participants.

Mr. Conlon will open the program with John Adams' Harmonium.

Rumors are flying around the industry that Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. is in early talks to acquire the indie cosmetics brand Butter London. Butter was founded in 2005 as a nail enamel line by British entrepreneur Sasha Muir and manicurist Nonie Creme, and has since expanded into a range of lip, eye and cheek color. The new line launched at Ulta in August and on butterlondon.com. Earlier this year, Leslie Freytag, Butter London's chief executive officer, claimed it to be the number-two brand in the prestige nail color category, right after Chanel.
Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research hosted its signature fundraiser, the Angel Ball, on Tuesday, October 29th at Cipriani Wall Street. The black-tie benefit, hosted by Grammy-nominated song writer Denise Rich featured a cocktail reception, dinner, live musical performances, a paddle raise and both live and online auctions raising nearly $3 million for the Foundation's research initiatives. This year's gala honored three individuals for their outstanding philanthropic contributions to cancer research. Supermodel Karolina Kurkova presented Simon de Pury, Chairman, de Pury de Pury with an award for his dedication to raising much needed funds for cancer research. Hugh Jackman along with his wife Deborra-lee Furness honored Deborra-lee's mother, Fay Duncan, President of the Fight Cancer Foundation in Australia and Ethan Zohn took the stage to talk about how research and the work of Clay B.
