Created on Smuin's famously versatile and athletic dancers, this fascinating piece weaves a captivating movement narrative set to a compelling soundtrack of contemporary classical baroque.
Stephen Petronio Company announces its arrival in the Hudson Valley with a program of signature, show-stopping works at Hudson Hall. For their Hudson debut, the Company perform three dances by choreographer Stephen Petronio including his newest work, Hardness 10, which marked his third collaboration with composer Nico Muhly and first with fashion designer Patricia Field ARTFASHION; an excerpt from Underland (2003), inspired by the dark, sensual music of Australian legend, Nick Cave; and Bud Suite (2006), which muses on the melodic pop-tunes of Rufus Wainwright. Also on the program is a revival of choreographer Steve Paxton's virtuosic Excerpt from Goldberg Variations (1986), a Bessie-nominated restaging from Petronio's Bloodlines project, established to revive works by post-modern dance masters.
The Utah Symphony today announced the lineup for the 2018 summer community concert series in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas, several of which feature outdoor venues. The schedule includes Gina Bachauer Piano Competition Finals on June 22 and 23 at 7 PM at Abravanel Hall, Gallivan Center on Monday June 25, Disney in Concert: "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" on June 27 and 28 at Abravanel Hall, the Utah Symphony at Snowbasin Resort on June 29 and August 7, the Utah Symphony at Thanksgiving Point on July 2, the Utah Symphony at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center on July 3, and Jenny Oaks Baker with the Utah Symphony on August 1 at Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre. The Kitchen's Spring 2018 Gala celebrates Nan Goldin and Lydia Lunch, two iconic American artists whose careers were borne of, deeply influenced, and have now engrained in collective memory the underground artistic spirit and political underpinnings of pre-gentrification Downtown New York subcultures (May 16). The evening features performances by New York's own post-punk band Bush Tetras, saxophonist and vocalist James Chance, and Australian singer JG Thirlwell & Ensemble with special guests. The after-party, hosted by Nicolas Jaar, will include a DJ set by Veronica Vasicka as well as performances by Retrovirus along with Lydia Lunch.
Utah Symphony Music Director Thierry Fischer, will serve as Utah State University's commencement speaker for its 131st graduation ceremony tomorrow. Maestro Fischer will also receive an honorary doctorate during the ceremony.
On the occasion of the 20-year mark of Matthew Shepard's tragic death, the Ford Theatres presents Considering Matthew Shepard, on Friday, June 15 and Saturday June 16 at 8:30pm, in association with Chris Isaacson Presents. Part of the 2018 Season and the IGNITE @ the FORD! series, Considering Matthew Shepard is performed by the 30-member GRAMMY Award-winning Conspirare choir, and composed and conducted by its GRAMMY Award-winning artistic director, Craig Hella Johnson.
Goodspeed is assembling a stellar cast for Cyrano an inspired new take on the Edmond Rostand classic Cyrano de Bergerac. Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Peter Dinklage will develop the title role and film actress Haley Bennett will play Roxanne in this bold new musical. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. This exciting musical is adapted by Erica Schmidt in collaboration with members of the Grammy Award-winning indie alternative band The National. Cyrano will run August 3 - September 2, 2018 at The Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
