NEXT TO NORMAL Pulitzer Winning Musical Opens At Actors' Playhouse

Winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and three 2009 Tony Awards®, Next to Normal explores how one suburban family copes with crisis. With powerful lyrics and an electrifying pop-rock score of more than 30 songs, this intense, emotional and ultimately hopeful musical aims right for the heart with its story of a family coming to terms with its past and bravely facing its future. Actors' Playhouse is the first regional theatre in South Florida to produce the show following its long Broadway run and National Tour. Next to Normal will be presented at the Miracle Theatre from January 18 - February 12, 2012.

South Florida revelers gathered on Monday evening to celebrate an artistic standard in the community - the region's theatrical talent. The 35th Annual Carbonell award ceremony played out amongst theatre-goers, actors, producers, directors and cast and crew members from some of South Florida's most renowned stages at the Amaturo Theater at Broward Center for the Performing Arts. 'Tonight we celebrated the artistry of live theatre through camaraderie, laughter and reflection...and honored the creativity of powerful stage and costume design, fabulous music and unsurpassed talent,' says Scott Shiller, Vice Chairman, Carbonell Awards Board of Directors and Executive Vice President of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. 'It's been a fabulous evening!'

To help support her educational endeavors, GableStage will be housing a benefit playreading of her award-winning, The Gates of Choice. All proceeds will go to the playwright. Critically acclaimed, The Gates of Choice, received its world premiere production at New Theatre in Coral Gables during their 2008-2009 season, and is the work that gained Ms. Rosenfarb attention on the theatre map.

Caldwell Theatre Company has completed their casting for Bob Clyman's Secret Order and announced that joining South Florida's preeminent actor Gordon McConnell are Nick Duckhart-last seen at Caldwell in The Whipping Man, Howard Elfman-South Florida's favorite character man and Katie Cunningham-currently enrolled in the FSU- MFA program at Asolo Theatre.
