Strauss's THE SILENT WOMAN Opens At Bard SummerScape

Opening Friday, July 22, Richard Strauss's comic opera, The Silent Woman (“Die Schweigsame Frau”), receives a rare American presentation at Bard SummerScape. Harold Wilson, “a stentorian bass … with impressive focus, carrying power and quiet charisma” (New York Times), heads a strong cast in a new production by Christian Räth, whose SummerScape staging of Das Wunder der Heliane prompted Musical America to declare: “Opera productions don't get much better than this.”

New York Live Composing Festival Opens This Thursday!

The North/South Chamber Orchestra to Conclude Season with June 9 Concert

The North/South Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Max Lifchitz concludes its 42nd consecutive season on Thursday, June 9 with a free admission concert featuring music by composers from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and the US. Mioi Takeda -- the Japanese American violinist will appear as soloist.

André De Shields to Star as Frederick Douglass at Flushing Town Hall for Juneteenth

On Sunday, June 19 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, André De Shields will return to Flushing Town Hall to reprise his role as the esteemed abolitionist leader and influential thinker in two, live performances of his self-crafted, solo show, André De Shields is Frederick Douglass: Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory.

Mabou Mines to Present Three-Day 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF WORK

Mabou Mines will present a 50th Anniversary Celebration of Work, reaching back into the company’s brimming five-decade history of innovative theater as a launchpad into the next 50 years (June 23–25; beginning 5pm June 23; 5pm–11 pm June 24; and 12pm–11pm June 25).

WINDFALL Opens This Week at Bay Street Theater

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to share production photos of Windfall, the first show of the 2022 Mainstage Season. The new comedy by Scooter Pietsch, directed by Jason Alexander, will make its East Coast premiere this week on Tuesday, May 31, and runs through June 19.

Hoff-Barthelson Music School's Youth Orchestras Win at Music Showcase

Hoff-Barthelson Music School's Young People’s Symphonette and Chamber Orchestra, both directed by faculty member Robert Schwartz, recently won multiple awards at the 2022 Music Showcase Festival in Allentown, PA, including 1st place prizes for both ensembles. Other awards included the Chamber Orchestra winning the overall instrumental award, signifying that they were the highest scoring instrumental group of the day, section specific awards for the Chamber Orchestra’s cello section and Symphonette’s cello and violin sections, and outstanding soloist awards for Olivia Seidenberg on the viola and Ariana Thomas on the piano.
