Grand Finalists Announced for NYMF's 2013 NEXT BROADWAY SENSATION

Eight finalists have been chosen to compete in the Grand Finale of the 8th Annual NYMF Next Broadway Sensation competition this Friday, October 11th at 11pm at New World Stages. Over 200 talented hopefuls auditioned for a spot in this year's competition.

Jude Treder-Wolff's CRAZYTOWN Comes to The Pit, 11/3

Jude Treder-Wolff, a creative arts psychotherapist and writer/performer brings her solo storytelling show Crazytown: my first psychopath to The Pit-The Peoples Improv, 123 W. 24th St, New York, NY on Sunday November 3 at 8 pm.

CINDERELLA, THE TEMPEST and More Set for ABT's 2014 Spring Season at the Met

American Ballet Theatre's 2014 season at the Metropolitan Opera House was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The season will be highlighted by the Company Premiere of Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, and a Shakespeare Celebration to include Ashton's The Dream and Alexei Ratmansky's The Tempest. Season revivals include Leonide Massine's Gaîté Parisienne and Kenneth MacMillan's Manon.

The Jewish Museum Welcomes Bella Meyer Today

In conjunction with the exhibition, Chagall: Love, War, and Exile, on view through February 2, 2014, The Jewish Museum is presenting a diverse series of programs from October through January. Highlights include a talk by Bella Meyer, granddaughter of Marc Chagall; historian Kenneth Silver, a Chagall exhibition catalogue essayist; and an impressive selection of contemporary painters including Amy Sillman, Peter Doig, Carroll Dunham, Thomas Eggerer, Charlene von Heyl, and David Salle.

Joseph O. Holmes THE BOOTH Moving Image Exhibition On View Beg. Today

Photographer Joseph O. Holmes, a chronicler of people and their work spaces, turned his attention in late 2011 to the film projection booth, capturing projectionists in their domains at movie theaters in and around New York City. More than 30 of his photographs from this series will be presented by Museum of the Moving Image in the exhibition The Booth: The Last Days of Film Projection, from today, October 5, 2013, through February 2, 2014, in the Museum lobby.

Leigh Silverman to Direct THE (curious case of the) WATSON INTELLIGENCE at Playwrights Horizons; Amanda Quaid Steps in for Maggie Siff

Complete details have been announced for the Playwrights Horizons World Premiere production of THE (curious case of the) WATSON INTELLIGENCE, a new play by Madeleine George (The Zero Hour). Directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (Go Back to Where You Are, Blue Door and The Call at PH; The Madrid, Chinglish,Golden Child, Well), the production will begin previews Friday evening, November 15 at 8PM with an Opening Night set for Monday, December 9 at 7PM. The limited engagement will play through Sunday evening, December 29 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

Ethan Mordden Appears on THEATER TALK Today

Theater historian and prolific author Ethan Mordden is this week's guest on THEATER TALK, discussing his newest book with co-hosts Michael Riedel of the New York Post and producer Susan Haskins. The witty and insightful writer, a true aficionado of and expert on musical theater, offers an overview of the art form's evolution, which he chronicles in Anything Goes: A History of American Musical Theatre, a comprehensive overview of the great American art form.

La MaMa's Puppet Series 2013 Set for 11/7-24

In 1962, when Ellen Stewart invited puppet artists from Korea, La MaMa began a long love affair with all things puppetry. The form has been an integral part of La MaMa's artistic vision for more than a half-century. The institution demonstrates the depth and breadth of its commitment with the La MaMa Puppet Series 2013, which, for three weeks (November 7 - 24), fills all three La MaMa theaters with a wide array of productions-both emerging and established artists, from countries around the world, offering something for theatergoers of all ages.

New York Live Arts Begins 2013-14 Studio Series Showing With Elena Demyanenko & Dai Jian's BLUE ROOM Tonight

New York Live Arts begins the 2013-14 Studio Series work-in-process showings with Elena Demyanenko and Dai Jian's collaborative work, Blue Room, tonight and tomorrow, October 4th and 5th at 6:00pm, in the third floor studios at New York Live Arts. A 2013-14 Dance Theater Workshop Commissioning Fund Commission, the Studio Series showing of Blue Room will precede the world premiere of the complete work to be shown in New York Live Arts' Theater in February 2014.

THE OUTGOING TIDE's Author Bruce Graham to Attend Chenango River Theatre's Production, 10/4

Bruce Graham, author of The Outgoing Tide playing through Oct. 13 at Chenango River Theatre, will be coming in to see the production on Friday, Oct. 4. He will stay after the show to participate in the theatre's traditional second Friday "TalkBack". The TalkBack is an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the director, cast and in this case, the author, about the play.

Harmonie Ensemble Presents GERSHWIN 115TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Today

The Grammy Award-nominated conductor Steven Richman and Harmonie Ensemble/New York will present a George Gershwin 115th Birthday Celebration today, September 29, 2013 at 3 pm at Christ & St. Stephen's Church, 120 W. 69th Street, between Broadway and Columbus, New York City.

EAST WILLYB Screening, Talkback Set for Moving Image Tonight

The Brooklyn-based web series East WillyB, which premiered in 2011, was created by Julia Grob and Yamin Segal, and stars Flaco Navaja, Shirley Rumierk, Rick Gonzalez, Julia Grob and Danny Hoch. Tonight, September 27, at 7:00 p.m. Museum of the Moving Image presents a theatrical screening of the first full season of the web series, plus the premiere of a never-shown musical episode, with Grob, Segal, and cast members in person. This free event is part of the Museum's ongoing series Changing the Picture, sponsored by Time Warner, Inc., that celebrates and explores the work of film and television artists of color who are bringing diverse voices to the screen.

Steve Blanchard, Nancy Opel and More Set for Amas' BLEEDING LOVE Reading, 10/15-16

Amas Musical Theatre will present three free staged readings of 'Bleeding Love, a post-apocalyptic new musical comedy', book by Jason Schafer, music by Arthur Lafrentz Bacon, lyrics by Harris Doran, directed by Michael Bush. The readings will take place on Tuesday, October 15th at 3:00pm and 7:00pm, and Wednesday, October 16th at 1pm at The Theatre at the 14th Street Y, 314 East 14th Street.

Brooklyn Book Festival Finds 'Eighth Wonder of the World'

Today, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and the Brooklyn Literary Council hailed the incredible success of Sunday's eighth annual Brooklyn Book Festival, supported by AT&T. One of the nation's top free literary events, the event attracted an estimated 45,000 booklovers to Downtown Brooklyn, along with a record 340+ top national and international authors, literary organizations and booksellers on 14 stages at Brooklyn Borough Hall and Plaza, Columbus Park, St. Francis College, Brooklyn Law School, the Brooklyn Historical Society and St. Ann & The Holy Trinity Church. Younger readers found their favorite books and authors at the Target Children's Area and the Youth Stoop. The Festival once again expanded to include a full week of over 60 unique literary-themed 'Bookend' events', all free or low-cost to attendees; this series of film screenings, parties, literary games and author appearances were held at clubs, bookstores, parks, theaters and libraries across Brooklyn.

Betty Buckley, Will Power & More Set for THEATER TALK's Season Premiere, 9/27

THEATER TALK, co-hosted for its 22nd consecutive year on New York television by Michael Riedel of the New York Post and producer Susan Haskins, premieres its 2013-2014 season by focusing on two new Off-Broadway successes, The Old Friends by Horton Foote at Signature Theatre and Fetch Clay, Make Man by Will Power at New York Theatre Workshop.

2nd Annual ARTS ALIVE LI Festival to Begin 9/27

It's back! Long Island's annual Arts Alive LI Festival returns this October as a month-long showcase of Long Island's many art, entertainment and cultural attractions. Presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) and Bethpage Federal Credit Union, the Festival takes place from September 27, 2013 through October 31, 2013. From visual, musical and performing arts, to community festivals and epicurean delights, Arts Alive LI is a tribute to Long Island's arts and entertainment world and will take place on stages, in galleries, at film houses, and in neighborhood restaurants across Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk counties.
