SATCHMO AT THE WALDORF's John Douglas Thompson and Terry Teachout to Visit THEATER TALK, 3/28-31

An all-new THEATER TALK features John Douglas Thompson and Terry Teachout, the cast and writer, respectively, of the new off-Broadway play, Satchmo at The Waldorf, now at the Westside Theatre Upstairs. A dramatization of the last years of jazz legend Louis Armstrong (1901-1971), the play was written after Teachout immersed himself in his subject for his 2009 biography, Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong.

Natalie Merchant to Play Carnegie Hall, 4/26

Multi-platinum selling recording artist Natalie Merchant performs a Carnegie Hall Family Concert on Saturday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. Based on Merchant's recent book and music project Leave Your Sleep, the concert features nursery rhymes and lullabies by 19th- and 20th-century poets set to the singer's beautiful melodies, performed by a chamber orchestra and with projected illustrations by renowned artist Barbara McClintock. James Bagwell conducts the performance, which also features musicians from the dynamic chamber music collective Decoda, pianist and accordion player Uri Sharlin, and guitarist Gabriel Gordon. This Family Concert is presented by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute and recommended for children ages 5?10.

FABnyc's LOAD OUT! to Help Artists Recycle Together, 4/26

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc) will host its eighth Load OUT! - a twice yearly 'riot' of repurposing and recycling activities. FABnyc will gather gently used materials from arts organizations and other donors throughout the East Village/Lower East Side for this one-of-a-kind extravaganza, taking place at 11 East 3rd Street from 12-3PM.

Peter Brook to Stage Theater for the New City's SOTTO VOCE in French

The Miami Herald reported last week that 'Sotto Voce' by Nilo Cruz, which Theater for the New City commissioned and produced for its world premiere February 15 to March 9, will be staged by legendary director Peter Brook in a French version in the future, with other versions to follow. Mr. Brook, Director of Theatre du Nord in Paris, was quoted as calling the play 'beautiful.'

The Guggenheim Museum Presents ITALIAN FUTURISM 1909-1944: RECONSTRUCTING THE UNIVERSE, Thru 9/1

From February 21 through September 1, 2014, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presents Italian Futurism, 1909–1944: Reconstructing the Universe, the first comprehensive overview in the United States of one of Europe's most important 20th-century avant-garde movements. Featuring over 360 works by more than 80 artists, architects, designers, photographers, and writers, this multidisciplinary exhibition examines the full historical breadth of Futurism, from its 1909 inception with the publication of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's first Futurist manifesto through its demise at the end of World War II. The exhibition includes many rarely seen works, some of which have never traveled outside of Italy. It encompasses not only painting and sculpture, but also the advertising, architecture, ceramics, design, fashion, film, free-form poetry, photography, performance, publications, music, and theater of this dynamic and often contentious movement that championed modernity and insurgency.

Isle of Klezbos Release New Album with Special Concert at Joe's Pub, 4/6

ISLE of KLEZBOS, the soulful and swinging all-women's klezmer sextet, will release their second album with a special concert at JOE'S PUB at the Public on Sunday, April 6 at 7:30 PM. The new disc, Live from Brooklyn - recorded in concert last year at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, with the addition of two bonus studio numbers - will be available from Rhythm Media Records on Tuesday, April 8 as well as at the Joe's Pub performance. Formed in 1998, the group approaches their music with a canny mix of irreverence and respect. Live from Brooklyn features the group's signature diverse blend of rambunctious folk dances, exciting Yiddish swing, entrancing retro tango, klezmerengue, re-grooved standards, and genre-defying originals. The album will be availab le on iTunes, in stores and wherever music is sold.

Cast of Off-Broadway's HELLMAN V. MCCARTHY Set for THEATER TALK this Weekend

An all-new THEATER TALK features the cast of Brian Richard Mori's Hellman v. McCarthy, a dramatization of "the greatest literary feud in modern history" between the eminent writers Mary McCarthy and Lillian Hellman. It began when McCarthy, who was appearing on The Dick Cavett Show, January 25, 1980, said of Hellman, "Every word she writes is a lie, including 'and' and 'the.'"

Jim Campbell Solo Exhibition Opens Today at Museum of the Moving Image

Museum of the Moving Image presents the first solo museum exhibition in New York of the work of Jim Campbell (b. 1956), the San Francisco-based artist best known for his evocative low resolution works. The exhibition opens in New York City today, March 21, 2014 and will be on view through June 15.

Come view "From Shore to Shore: Boat Builders & Boat Yards" an exhibition aboard Red Hook's historic wooden barge. Contemporary boat builders reflect over 200 years of a maritime tradition. From Shore to Shore explores the worlds of craftsmen and the places where boats and ships are still being worked on today. Thirteen exhibition panels, accompanying audio video interviews and a timeline highlight profiles of master craftsmen, their tools and the historic boat yards where they work.

Titan Theatre Company to Offer $12 Early Bird Tickets to KING LEAR with Terry Layman

Target Margin Theater's URIEL ACOSTA: I WANT THAT MAN! Begins Performances Tonight

Target Margin Theater, presented by The Chocolate Factory Theater, continues its exploration of Yiddish Theater with a new adaptation of one of the central plays of Yiddish history, Uriel Acosta: I Want That Man!, taken from myriad literary and historical sources. Created and directed by TMT's Artistic Director, David Herskovits, with original songs by Rebecca Hart, and toy theater created by Kathleen Kennedy Tobin, the four-member cast features Don Castro, James Tigger! Ferguson, Mary Rasmussen and J.H. Smith III.

NCCC to Present Jon Elston's THE ELLIPTICAL, Begin. 4/2

WNY playwright and RLTP Ensemble Member Jon Elston will see his play The Elliptical - which debuted at the Road Less Traveled Theater in 2008 -staged in a new production at Niagara County Community College (NCCC). The play is part of a double-bill titled Lost Time which will open Wednesday, April 2nd.

Modern Love Story LUNGS Up Next at the Kitchen Theatre, 3/26-4/13

How is it that British playwright Duncan Macmillan has written such a perfect play for Ithaca? The young couple in LUNGS care deeply about the earth and their responsibility to protect it, and this awareness of the big picture affects all their decisions, large and small. LUNGS is a modern love story, filled with concern and hope for the future in equal measure. Previews are March 26 - 28, the press opening is on March 29, and the play runs through April 13 at the Kitchen Theatre Company.
