TRU and The Players Theatre to Host April Panel NURTURING NEW WORKS, 4/30

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center with their April panel, Nurturing New Works: What Producers Can Learn from the National Playwrights Conference on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 7:30pm at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, Mainstage Theatre, NYC. Doors open at 7pm for networking and refreshments, presentations and roundtable introductions start at 7:30pm (come prepared with your best half-minute summary of who you are, and what you need).

Terry Layman to Return to Titan Theatre in KING LEAR, Running 4/25-5/11

Queens-based Titan Theatre Company will conclude its critically acclaimed, award-winning second season with a signature take on Shakespeare's epic masterpiece King Lear. The production will play a limited run April 25 - May 11, 2014 at Queens Theatre, the borough's premiere performing arts venue. Titan Theatre Company Artistic Director Lenny Banovez, who previously helmed Titan's hit productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Henry V, will direct.

On the newest THEATER TALK, actress Tyne Daly and playwright Terrence McNally discuss the new play Mothers and Sons, McNally's latest work on Broadway, now at the Golden. Hosted by Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins, THEATER TALK's Mothers and Sons episode premieres in the New York metropolitan area Friday, April 11 (2014) at 1 AM (Saturday morning) on Thirteen/PBS, and continues on CUNY TV* Saturday 4/12 at 8:30 PM, Sunday 4/13 at 12:30 PM, and Monday 4/14 at 7:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 7:30 PM.

Isle of Klezbos to Release New Album, 4/8

ISLE of KLEZBOS will introduce their new album Live from Brooklyn - scheduled to be released Tuesday, April 8 - with a special concert event, a major radio appearance and glowing advance reviews. According to the New York Daily News, 'six sexy women give a creative kick to classic klezmer music. The Klezbos ladies have made Yiddish hits hip again.' They were praised for 'lively and melodic jazz and tango-laced pieces' from The Jewish Week and the album was hailed as 'a brilliant, intense, eclectic live album, brilliant and virtuosic' by the New York Music Daily. ISLE of KLEZBOS was a 'Critics Pick' in this week's Time Out New York.

New York Live Arts' 'James Baldwin, This Time!' Presents BALDWIN THROUGH DANCE: CHARLES O. ANDERSON AND DIANNE MCINTYRE, 4/26-27

As part of the second annual Live Ideas festival, James Baldwin, This Time!, New York Live Artspresents Baldwin Through Dance: Charles O. Anderson and Dianne McIntyre. The shared program features the world premiere of Time is Time created and performed by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Dianne McIntyre, and the New York City premiere of Charles O. Anderson's Restless Natives.

'GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE' Leads, Director and Woodie King Jr. Set for THEATER TALK, Beg. Today

The newest THEATER TALK features first, three artists closely involved with the success of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder - actors Jefferson Mays, Bryce Pinkham and director Darko Tresnjak - followed by Woodie King, Jr. Founder, Artistic Director and guiding spirit of off-Broadway's New Federal Theatre, now celebrating 44 years as a home to minority and women writers, directors and actors.

Sharif Atkins to Star in NBT and CTH's DUTCHMAN, 4/30-5/23

Actor Sharif Atkins ('White Collar,' 'Hawaii,' 'ER') will star as Clay in the co-production of 'Dutchman' by LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka) by Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) and The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH). The two theater companies are mounting the production 50 years after the March 1964 world premiere of the play at the Cherry Lane Theatre and in tribute to the late theater great Baraka, who died on January 9. Ambien Mitchell stars opposite Atkins as Lula and Lorenzo Scott joins the cast as the Conductor. Previews of the Carl Cofield-directed show begin on April 30 and run through May 2, and performances run from May 3 through May 23 at National Black Theatre in Harlem.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Returns to Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater for a Two-Week Engagement, 6/11-22

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world's most popular dance companies,will return to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with four different programs for a two-week 15-performance engagement at the David H. Koch Theater June 11 - 22, 2014. Today, Artistic Director Robert Battle announced repertory for the season, highlighted by a world premiere from Robert Moses - a first-time collaboration with the Company - new productions of Hans van Manen's Polish Pieces and David Parsons' signature work Caught, along with the company premiere of Asadata Dafora's groundbreaking 1932 solo Awassa Astrige/Ostrich. Ailey's acclaimed dancers will perform in diverse repertory including encore performances of 2013-14 season premieres and new productions such as Wayne McGregor's Chroma and an "Ailey/Ellington" program, as well as favorites like Alvin Ailey's American masterpiece Revelations.

OPERA America Announces Recipients of 'Opera Grants for Female Composers'

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera, is pleased to announce the first round of recipients of its new program: Opera Grants for Female Composers, made possible through the generosity of The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. From among the 112 eligible applicants, an independent adjudication panel selected eight composers. The recipients have each been awarded $12,500 to support the development of their compositions listed below.

New York Live Arts presents the U.S. premiere of Alain Buffard's Baron Samedi, May 1 - 3 at 7:30pm in the New York Live Arts Theater. Featuring a stellar international cast including Nadia Beugre, Will Rawls and David Thomson, among others, Baron Samedi pays tribute to the eponymous legendary and unsettling Carnival figure and voodoo master of ceremonies.

RLTP's BLUE: New York's West Coast Party Set for 6/25

In culmination of its 10th Anniversary Season, Buffalo theatre company Road Less Traveled Productions (RLTP) announced its second annual summer event. With a new title, BLUE: New York's West Coast Party, will be held Wednesday, June 25th, 2014, beginning at 5:30 PM and continuing through 10:00 PM, at The Shores Waterfront Restaurant on Tonawanda Island, NY.

National Black Theatre and Classical Theatre of Harlem to Present DUTCHMAN, 4/30-5/23

Following the successful, award-winning 2013 co-production of Detroit '67 written by Dominique Morisseau, Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) and The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) officially announce their second co-production. The famed Harlem arts institutions will produce the 50th Anniversary revival of 'Dutchman' by LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka) from April 30 to May 23, 2014. Carl Cofield will direct the revival.

Amas's Rosetta Lenoire Musical Theatre Teen Academy to Present 9 TO 5, 5/2-11

The Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) The Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will present 9 to 5: The Musical, based on the 1980 20th Century Fox film and originally produced on Broadway by Robert Greenblatt. Directed by Christopher Scott with choreography by Monica Johnson and musical direction by Trevor Bachman, the production will feature 26 members of "The Teen Academy." Performances will begin on Friday, May 2, 2014 (and continue through May 11) at The Theatre at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street - between 1st & 2nd Aves). SATCHMO AT THE WALDORF's John Douglas Thompson and Terry Teachout to Visit THEATER TALK, 3/28-31

An all-new THEATER TALK features John Douglas Thompson and Terry Teachout, the cast and writer, respectively, of the new off-Broadway play, Satchmo at The Waldorf, now at the Westside Theatre Upstairs. A dramatization of the last years of jazz legend Louis Armstrong (1901-1971), the play was written after Teachout immersed himself in his subject for his 2009 biography, Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong.
